Works well - frustrates the squirrels
This product is well-made and quite sturdy. It is spring loaded so that it closes up under the weight of the squirrel, but not the birds. It is easy to clean and fill. I recommend this product if you have a pesky squirrel problem.

Saves in bird seed costs; the birds love it.
This is my second Brome bird feeder. Yes, they are expensive, but you absolutely will save on the amount of (expensive!) seed you buy if you're plagued by squirrels. Our squirrels can wipe out the contents of other feeders in a matter of hours. Not so with Brome. They can't get the seed out of them no matter how hard they try. *Just be sure to mount the feeder per the instructions (about 18" away from anything a squirrel can hang onto). I have both of mine hanging under my eaves, which are pretty wide. The birds definitely like this feeder. It seems to be their go-to of all the ones I have.My other Brome is a different configuration, and is a bit more convenient to fill than this model. On this model, you have to hold the bottom still with one hand while you unscrew the nut at the top in order to get the top off to fill it. My other Brome has a 'snap-on' lid that's quicker, but it also cost more than this model. This one is easy to fill, it just takes two hands to get it apart. Not a deal breaker at all, for me, especially after seeing how the birds seem to prefer it over the other Brome. My other one has perches on the side 'walls' of the feeder, this one has 4 'ring' type perches that go around the base (see photos). I suspect maybe they like that type of perch better, but I don't know. Don't get me wrong, the birds like both of them, but I've noticed they seem to like feeders that have a ring or square type base for them to perch on. Both models are great and each has it's advantages. You may be able to see in the photos the two Brome models. One photo was taken yesterday morning after I filled them, the other I took today. You can see that this model (on right) is already empty, so there's something about it our birds here prefer. We get mostly finches, chickadees, titmice and cardinals, and sometimes a few larger birds like cowbirds, grosbeaks and similar. The other Brome (on left) is about a year or more old and still looks like new, so they definitely hold up well. I do wish they came in brighter colors, maybe blue or red, but I don't imagine the birds care about the color.I highly recommend Brome feeders!

This works great
The mechanics of this item does work very good. It attracts many birds and I mean many depending on the food. Woodpeckers are on a decline in my section of Massachusetts. I got food made for them and Woodpeckers do show up plus many other big birds. I raised the metal stand that the birds sit on and this eliminated the big birds. The Woodpeckers have no problem getting at the food. The feeder needs to be cleaned every week.

unnecessarily complicated
squirrels are a challenge in our yard and they find creative ways to circumnavigate the obstacles I place between them and my feeders. I thought this Brom feeder would be a good addition, but they can climb on it easily because of the cage. the product is flimsy and cheaply constructed for the cost. the best combination I found is the Droll Yankee 15" dome baffle over the Brome Mega feeder. This is not sold as a squirrel proof feeder, but the dome makes it so and covers the birds in bad weather. I bought 3 of those domes to cover all my feeders. The only feeder that the dome baffle does not block well is the large cedar house style. The squirrels can slide off the baffle and grab the cedar edge with a claw and get on that way - the cannot do this with the cylindrical style feeders.
