Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets the Art of the Film (Valerian Film Tie in)

Perfect Art Of book, for the perfect movie adaptation of the original french Valerian comics. A must have for concept art fans.
I've bought many Art of Books in recent years. I'm an illustrator myself and I'm always looking for good related material. I must say that this is one of the best Art Of books I've ever came across, right up there with the ones for Star Wars or for The Hobbit when it comes to movie projects. To me this VALERIAN one has the bonus of being not only about one of the most influential works on my life, the VALERIAN comics saga, but also being one of those good books about movies where you can really read interesting things about the creation of the project. Also the illustrators are credited wich doesn't happen that much.Luc Besson writes some fascinating texts which complement the ton of artwork this book has in store for the reader. The quality of this edition is outstanding, the printing is fenomenal and the overall hardcover edition in my view is a must.Particularly if you like me loved the movie adaptation of these fabulous original french comics. This is not only a great movie companion book with lots of interesting stuff to read and discover about the original process Besson used to get the visuals imagined, but also is an outstanding concept art book.If you know of concept artists like Fheng Zu , you'll love the material he has created for the environments in the movie and it's all here.Overall I couldn't recommend this book high enough. Just go buy it.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets: the Art of the Film.
A very beautifully presented “Art of” book, typical of this publisher (Titan) it's a landscape format hardback.Printed on nice glossy paper, this is packed with full-colour illustrations covering all aspects of the concept design for the film, from costumes, vehicles and hardware to set design, CGI landscape/environments and alien characters. It concentrates on the transference of the comic-book original to the updated visuals used in the film adaptation, but unlike many other books of this type it doesn`t rely on screenshots from the film – this really does show the many ideas and digital artwork that went into the realisation of the final film. All said, this is a fascinating and visually engrossing companion to the film and it will certainly be of interest to anyone who appreciates science fiction concept art.Shame there's no “Look inside” option above, but do look at the sample illustrations.

Four Stars
Really good mix of characters, environment and vehicle/ship artwork. Nice concept work etc too, not just final artwork.
