Excellent Japanese-style rice – cooks perfectly every time
I’ve ordered this rice many times and have been consistently satisfied with the quality. Compared to other short-grain or sushi rice brands I’ve tried, Yume Nishiki stands out as far superior. The grains are uniform and unbroken, with no excess starch dust, and the taste and texture are reliably excellent and it leaves a nice smell whilst cooking I always rinse the rice a few times and let it soak before cooking, then use a rice cooker. It comes out glossy, slightly sticky, and subtly sweet – just as it should. It’s ideal not just for sushi, but also for donburi, onigiri, or as a simple side with Japanese dishes. What impresses me most is that even when reheated, the rice holds its texture without going dry or mushy, which is something cheaper brands often fail to do. The bag is sturdy and resealable, and while there are no English instructions, it’s easy enough to look up. In terms of price, it’s not the cheapest option, but for 10kg of genuinely premium rice that performs this well, I think it’s excellent value. I’ve tried to find alternatives locally and online, but nothing else comes close in consistency or flavour. Highly recommended if you care about getting the rice right in Japanese cooking.

Excellent rice
My wife is Japanese and is very discerning about the rice she buys. When our local wholesaler stopped selling Japanese rice we bought this. I believe it is grown in Italy but the quality, texture, taste etc is about the best we have found anywhere at a reasonable price.

Best bang for buck Japanese rice thats available...
Reviewed October 2021: I've got one of those wives that comes from east of the Watford Gap, and she knows a bit about rice. Outside of Japan, we both agree this is the best Japanese rice that's available in 10kg bags, and have been using this brand since we returned to the UK 3 years ago. (previously living in Japan). Its a good all round rice, and we use it for pretty well everything, although when we don't want it to be starchy/sticky we make a point of rinsing it well in cold water. We always cook it with a rice cooker, and it's perfect no matter if we take the regular or the quick cook option with the cooker. Usually buy this brand from the local Asian grocery store which is still 15 miles and then have to pay for parking, so this is good value to buy from Amazon.

Repeatedly buying this item but the package can be damaged!
I like this rice and repeatedly bought in the past. For the first time, the package was damaged and it was a little disappointment. I did not ask for replacement as it is more troublesome for me to have "return" process and also it was a little scratch. However, I presume under the current situation, some people want to be aware of this case! Product itself is very nice Japanese style rice but please be aware of the review for "packaging" from each seller!

Japanese rice is hard to find.
My wife is Japanese, infact from Niigata which is famous for its rice and sake. Needless to say most rice isn’t good enough for her. This rice is not grown in Japan. But it’s a Japanese brand that uses Japanese seeds to grow their rice. Like I said my with is picky with her rice (first time she came to uk bought 15kg on the plane)!. But she likes the taste of this rice and many of the Japanese friends enjoy it too. So if you want some great tasting rice we recommend this

the big yes
high value premium short grained white glutenous rice from Japan. softer and sweeter than basmati and jasmine rice, less sticky than Thai glutenous rice. Perfect for making donburi, sushi, bento, onigiri or chahan, or to accompany mild curry, fresh seafoods, or anything else you would eat with rice

Delicious and authentic-tasting Japanese rice
We previously bought Nishiki rice (which is also nice) but decided to try Yumenishiki for a change and have been pleasantly surprised. We cook our rice in a Japanese rice cooker. This seems slightly stickier than Nishiki and it doesn't go as dry as Nishiki when storing leftovers in a fridge and reheating in a microwave. For that reason we'll probably buy this from now on as they are similarly priced.
