Good, but not great
Allen Woody RIP. This, as said in the other reviews, is really for the fans and a reminder of how good Mr Woody was. The best live set was "With a Little Help From My Friends" which seemed definitive. Here the 3 disc set is effectively reduced to a 2 disc set by the boring and tedious Little Milton on disc 2. Tired, generic blues, he even mentions a dog and a woman in the song in a tongue in cheek rendition. As the other reviewer said..fine at the time maybe, but here it makes for very boring listening. I guess the beauty of cds is that you can program stuff out. I would have prefered a double cd with this cutout for me. Having said that the rest of the concert was good, some fumbling over forgotten words in Helter Skelter and a few rather uninspired cuts. Roseland and the aforementioned live album set are a better bet, along with Deepest Cuts. I cant really recommend this cd as I must admit I can live without it and it will probably sit in the cupboard for a long while. Interesting, but far from essential.

Classic Mule Set
This is a must for Mulefans, a blistering show recorded on New Years Eve 1999 in Atlanta. Comprising of three sets, the first set showcasing 3 songs from the then upcoming cd "Life Before Insanity", with the countdown to midnight, then three covers. Set two opens with "When The Blues Comes Knockin'", this set features Blues legend Little Milton, joining Gov't Mule for an hour of fantastic blues, including Little Miltons take on Willie Dixons "I Can't Quit You Babe" Exit Little Milton, enter Audley Freed for several songs, including The Black Crowes "Sometimes Salvation", and The Beatles "Helter Skelter", among others, also joining them onstage is Audleys former bandmate, Robert Kearns, for a rendition of "30 Days In The Hole". Set Three, the encore, see's Johnny Mosier and Mark Van Allen joining for "Out Of The Rain". The evening being rounded off with Bob Dylans "I Shall Be Released" and Lynyrd Skynyrds "Simple Man" Additionally, this show also serves as a reminder of the great Power Trio Mule was with the huge talent of Warren Haynes, Matt Abts and the sadly missed Allen Woody.

Mostly for hard core fans
Gov't Mule is one of the finest bands out there. A true jam band with stellar musicianship and a great catalogue of pristine songs thanks to the illustrious Warren Haynes. And a band who likes to communicate directly with their fans - having almost all their shows for download on their web page. This is a flashback to that fateful and highly charged NYE which marked the new millenium. And a look back to the bands start as a powertrio and in that respect a fitting epitaph for bass giant Allan Woody who died 10 years ago. After a not too inspired start things heat up with a jamfilled "Blind Man In The Dark". But then a long segment with bluessinger Little Milton seems to drift into the territory of: worked fine in the moment but not really worth a more concentrated listening later. There are inspired covers of "Dazed And Confused" and "Power Of Soul" and lots of fine interplay, but as a whole this show most of all proves how much the band has progressed over the years and how much the addition of Danny Louis on keys have expanded their sound.Compared with the brilliant Mule shows of today this well produced set is - with all due respect to the bass artistry of A.W. - mostly of historical interest.

cd fantastico
il trio ai suoi tempi, purtroppo, era molto efficace dal punto di vista esecutivo. Trascinante dal vivo . Grande concerto.
