One source for all your answers
Very thorough. It is close to a 1,000 pages so it is not meant to be read cover to cover. It is a very good source when you have a topic you want to understand. I initially purchased it to review templates and styles. It provided very good information. As you read, it provides links to other related topics. Also, in addition to the confusing Kindle location #'s, there is actually a page #. Then there is a "Go to page" option. This is nice in case you want to log references to key sections. I do use the Kindle bookmarks and highlighting but after you get so many, things can get muddled. A lot of times, I will create a note up front or an external note to reference specific topics. The page numbers are extremely helpful to do this.I still use online articles and resources for different topics but it is nice to have a single coherent reference book to come to in order to really understand a feature. The capabilities of Word is similar to a programming language. It is nice to have such a complete resource to refer to.

I've been using Word in one version or another for years and recently upgraded to Word 2013. I hated it. Purchased this manual hoping it would speed up the learning curve and help me and my new software get along better. It worked. This giant book is well organized making it easy to look up a specific topic, and very clearly written without being "dumbed down." The most helpful chapters (at least for me) have been those on graphics and pictures, indexing, managing large files, collaborating/file sharing, and designing web sites. Throughout the book are great tips, cautions, and how to access useful features that are not readily found in the menus (ribbons). Also has a chapter on recovering files and repairing Word should something go wrong. My only "wish" is for more information on troubleshooting common problems (like correcting formatting blunders). All in all: money well spent. Recommended.

Broad and Deep but not perfect
When I switched to Word I had to learn it from scratch. This was an excellent introduction. It emphasizes the essential concepts and covers a lot of the essential details. I keep it on my desk and continue to refer to it to answer specific questions. The excellent alphabetical index is a great help for this.No book can be perfect considering the complex capabilities of Word 2013. But I really would have appreciated coverage of right-to-left languages such as Hebrew. If anybody reading this review can refer me to a book specializing in this area I would be grateful.

Very well thought out, very well written and edited. An extremely high-quality book.
This is an extremely good book for intermediate users who want to move to the advanced level. I've been using it regularly for about a month now, and I'm consistently impressed with the overall organization of the book (including ample cross referencing), the clarity of the explanations, the decisions about how much detail to provide on each topic, and the meticulous editing. The back-of-book index seems complete and thoughtful (not a brain-dead robo-index). The author and publisher did a great job.

Great resource on Word 2013
I design training courses for senior citizens and used this book to help design some sessions introducing Office 2013. In addition I just completed an intermediate level course on designing large and complex documents using Word 2013. 90% of the information I needed to develop the course came out of the book. I have used Faithe Wempen's books on Word for many years when she was with another publisher. I was greatly pleased when found this new book. I thought I had lost her! Great job Faithe!

Excellent reference volume but not comprehensive
This book covers all of the basic and (most of the) advanced Word 2013 functionality, and it is easy to read and understand. If you need a reference to consult occasionally, this book is highly recommended.

Huge Reference
And I'm talking both the content and the physical size (and weight). If this reference doesn't answer all of your questions, then what you are trying to do with Word 2013 probably isn't possible anyway. I even found myself inventing questions to look up just to see if the writers thought of that particular need and/or problem. By the time you master every trick, short cut, or feature listed and discussed (usually in depth) you won't need the book anymore; besides, a new version of Word will be out by then.

VERY THOROUGH COVERAGE OF THE SUBJECT
THIS HAS HELPED ME LEARN WORD 2013 a few times. But Word 2013 is business oriented and I am a home user with experience with a simpler Word product. The book is well written but so big it is hard for me to find things. Terminology is a large part of effective instruction and I have fallen behind the times some. The book is very thorough in its coverage of the product if you need that.
