Great book
Great book if you love Marilyn Monroe and want to know more about her life. I had read the reviews before buying it and so knew it was very much written in her voice and so was prepared for it, not that this is a bad thing just that it's a different style than normal. Once you get a few pages in it really does feel like it is her voice telling you her story which is done in a very sweet innocent way. My main problem is that it ends a bit abruptly but then that shouldn't be a surprise as it is her telling someone her story and she never got round to telling them the rest. My main reason for not giving it 5 stars is the introduction, it is written by the son of the man who she told her story to and took a lot of photos of her during her career, it just feels a bit odd. It is more bullet points of 'this photo was taken then' and 'this one was taken here', which I felt would have been better placed alongside the images rather than having to flick to the page before even reading the book and therefor not putting them in context. The images and the story themselves are lovely and I would recommend it to any Marilyn fan.

Bittersweet
I am a huge fan of Marilyn and collect anything to do with her, especially books. I received this book for Christmas. Read it straight away; couldn't put it down. It's as though Marilyn is speaking to you, spilling out her inner most thoughts and wishes. It starts with the struggles she had in her childhood and goes through her hard work in trying to break into Hollywood and finally finishes just after her marriage to Joe. It finishes somewhat abruptly, but that is purely due to her not carrying on this project I suspect and never revisiting it. Milton's photographs are a joy to behold and if you have his photographic book on Marilyn too, many of these pictures will be familiar to you, although there were a couple of gems in there which I had not seen.Marilyn, as we know, was a highly intelligent woman and this comes across. She was highly astute about many issues and when I was reading this book I was amazed that many of her insights into situations are still relevant today. There is a wistfulness and sadness that I feel runs through the book. But maybe that is just because we know how this story ends. However in reading this book it does give you a glimpse into this amazing lady, but of course makes you wish things had ended very differently for her.Anyway a must for any Marilyn fan or indeed Hollywood fan.

At last an edition that is superbly presented
Written at the height of her fame for a series of magazine articles in themid-50's with the help of Ben Hecht, this is a new version of the bookoriginally published over a decade after her death in 1974. It's Marilyn'sautobiography & poignantly recounts her childhood as an unwanted orphan, herearly adolescence, her rise in the film industry from bit player tocelebrity, and her marriage to Joe DiMaggio. This edition has a new forward by Joshua Greene & it's beautifullyillustrated with his fathers photographs. When I saw it I couldn't help but think that had this been published in the1950's then it's just how Marilyn & Milton would have wished it to be like. It's obvious Joshua has put a great deal of thought into the way the bookhas been designed & compared to the original book, which had no picturesinside at all this one is quite the opposite with pictures on every otherpage. It's beautiful & reading it you can almost hear Marilyn's voice inyour head telling the story.

Memories from Norma Jean
First let me just say I hardly ever read non-fiction but after I read others reviews, I decided to purchase this book. It's a strange book. I had to keep reminding my self it wasn't fiction. It jumps a lot and you almost expect it to go on as fiction would. I haven't read much about Marilyn's life but this gives you a snap shot of her memories. I guess you could say you get a snap shot of Norma Jean the woman not Marilyn the goddess. I still feel I would like to read more about her life, this doesn't cover enough but has left me wanting to know more about this beautiful lonely lady. It's a good book, not what I was expecting. The photos are lovely.

Touching story by her own words!!
It's nice to hear a portrayal of herself, this is my first biography I have read on Marilyn but seen many film/documentaries and she has always been betrayed has a (to put it plainly) a man eater. All she wanted was to be accepted be loved, and looked after. I nearly choked when she was told by famous directors she was unphotogenic what the hell!! If your looking for truth and honesty then this is the book for you the only reason I gave this book four stars is because I wanted to read more of her words she pulled me in from the start!! One thing I know for sure she was no dumb blonde!!

facinating book. but really sad.
I've always been fascinated by marilyn Monroe since I was a child. So when I seen this book of her story I wanted to give it a go. What a moving book how she was passed around as a child from pillar to post and abused so young. I became very sad realising one soyoung could endure so much. She was also very careful not to name some names so it wasn't a kiss and tell. I was shocked at the abrupt ending but we all knew that her life ended suddenly. Beautiful rare pictures accompanied the book. Highly recommended.
