KNIPEX Pliers, VDE-Tested 200 mm, 13 96 200 SB

Another great Knipex product. These are the 13 96 200 pliers, with the locking mechanism. The tool has 4 main functions. As a pair of cable shears, as a wire stripper for cable up to 2.5mm, as a crimp, and as a pair of pliers. The shears will happily cut 25mm tails. The wire strippers are good and sharp and are perfectly sized for their relevant wires. The crimp isn't as good as a purpose made crimp tool, but is useful for getting you out of trouble. The pliers are good and solid. They have the usual circular grip, which then tapers off to serrated blades, which then taper to smooth ends for pulling cable through without damaging the outer insulation. The ends taper to a useful 4mm. Perfect for getting into tight spots. When closed and with the lock on, the pliers don't fully close. (Photo). I'm guessing they were designed this way? It's actually very useful as it means all functions other than the cable shears, are available even with the lock on. It makes stripping and crimping a lot faster. The lock works equally well even if you're left handed like me. Just a quick flick of the thumb is all that's needed. Overall, this is another great, useful tool from Knipex. It won't always replace the individual purpose made tools, but on occasion, whilst stuck up a ladder for instance it can be invaluable. I hope you found this review helpful.

Great pliers all around

I resisted buying these installation pliers, as i have the individual Knipex tools; which are excellent. I also didn't particularly like the cumbersome handling of this combination tool. That was until I tried the sprung version, which for me is a game changer. The lock doesn't fully close these pliers; it allows them to open to about 2cm where they perform particularly effectively as electrical pliers. Flick-off the lock and you have croppers that can cut thick copper tails (Note: the handle says not to cut steel). It's a very nicely thought out combination tool that is comfortable to use and can handle most regular electrical installations without needing to change tools.

Knipex quality in a very versatile and durable tool. Feels good in the hand and does everything you want it to do well enough. Dedicated tools might be "better", but this works and means no tool swapping.

Gives you a single set of pliers for most electrical installation jobs. Sharp cutters and great to use, if a little longer that you would expect. Happy with the purchase given the cost.

Definitely worth owning if you want a single tool for multiple uses like most repairman/service persons do. Because they're approx twice the price of the Channelock pliers that I have (& really like) & most other pliers, the Value for Money seems a bit steep. That said, they're also taking the place of about 4-5 individual tools, so they're actually good value when you look at it that way. On the actual tool, I like it. A lot. Good sturdy German build feel about it. Nice grips, positive action. Only thing I don't enjoy about this set, is being the spring loaded set, they're constantly trying to open which gets in the way in my toolbox, pocket etc. The locking nib needs another step so they can be locked completely shut. But I fixed that myself thus far with fitting a velcro strap to the handle. Overall, as I expected, def worth having in your pocket/toolbar. Saves multiple tools, comfortable, nice smooth action, good quality. You get what you pay for, & at this price you're paying for darn good quality.
