How do you step down the voltage for camera that takes 4 D cell battery's. I don't want to fry camera

If your camera's 4 D-cell batteries are connected in series, then it requires 6 volts to power it (1.5v x 4 batteries = 6 volts), so you would need to connect a 12 volt to 6 volt step down power converter such as Amazon's ASIN: B00CGQRIFG.

Is the dc adapter plug 5mm x 2.1mm (adaptaplug size K)?

Yes, it's a 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug.

how do you know when the battery is fully charged ?

When you plug it into the wall there is a little red light next to where you connect the charging cable to. When the light is out it's fully charger.

I have a bunch of different brand camera including stealth, wondering if this connector will fit in different 12v camera brands ?

As long as the camera is 12v, then yes. I believe mine came with an adaptor to be used with Browing cameras. Most trail cams use the same 2.1mm x 5.5mm plug.
