They were both pinkish to start with and this dye turned the dress into a gorgeous vibrant olive green. Not too dark, maybe because on the packet it said it is not meant for silk, so perhaps that's why it didn't turn it too dark, but I actually love it. The trousers that were a strange dark rosy beige to start with, turned brown with this, which makes sense in terms of color mixing. Either way, I love it! It was really easy to use too, I used a small plastic tub, filled it with hot tap water and added some boiling water to make it really hot. I then had some dishwasher salt, that I added for the salt component, and then the dye. I had previously washed both items quickly just by hand with a dash of detergent to make sure I am not leaving any stains and that it would take evenly to the fabric. Gave them a little rinse, then I put both in, and swished them around so they would get evenly coated, and then basically kept swishing them every few minutes. Once it was cooled down enough to go in with gloves, I made sure I squeezed all the air pockets out. Just make sure you follow the instructions and have a good pair of waterproof gloves so your hands don't end up dyed as well. Try using a bucket with hand dyes ,its easier to mix the fabric rather than a shallower bowl. With dyes used in the washing machine ,I always use a 40 degree wash with a small cup of bleach to clean the machine after. **Q: How much would I need to dye a double quilt** A: I don't know but I'm guessing about four packets? Natural fibres will soak and lock the colour in, man made fibres like nylon/polyester can only be coated so will be more of a dark tint. Wool, linen and cotton are the best products to dye, I did a woollen hat - perfect. I have also used their shoe dyes to colour and revive shoes, boots and handbags.
