Does this do a similar thing as a carbomer? I have dry/painful eyes in the morning.

no idea. The cream worked for me, but its awful stuff, very thick and once in your eyes what ever vision you have will go, It did help me for a short period but I couldn't continue using it. I did buy a heated eye mask which is brilliant it was recommended by my hospital, I have Keratoconus. I now take Flaxseed capsules with omega3 twice a day, I no longer suffer with excruciating morning dry eyes.

Can you wear contact lenses in the morning after a nights application.?

I wear contact lenses and I have never had any trouble the next day wearing my lenses after a nights application.

Is this thick like vaseline?

I haven't put Vaseline in my eyes before .I put it in each night in one of my eyes and find it very lubricating It does make vision blurry but I am going to sleep so it doesn't worry me I put it in at bedtime

When opened how long can it be used for?

I use it nightly in one eye until the tube is finished which may be several weeks the manufacturers advise to discard tube 60 days after opening it.
