Rub n Buff Wax - great product
Replaced living room furniture and needed to "tone down" a brown curio that I wanted to keep. Rub n Buff worked great. I've used it for years on different projects and am always pleased with the results.

Saved me from needing to replace hinges
I needed black hinges to match my new black kitchen cabinet handles. I knew I wasn't up for the task of replacing hinges on 27 cabinet doors, if I could even find new hinges that matched the configuration of the old ones! Fortunately, I found a YouTube video suggesting the use of Ebony Rub and Buff for this kind of task. I took one hinge off and used it as a guide to make a pattern out of uncut stencil plastic which allowed me to make a shield to fit around the hinges and protect the cabinet wood from smudges. It worked quite well, and I'm very pleased with the outcome. After a few days, the Rub and Buff set up and hardened onto the metal surfaces, so I consider the project a success, and I expect they will provide longterm durability.

Beware the Ebony
I’ve used, and loved, the gold and silver. Just bought the ebony. It did not stick to anything I tried it in. As a test/comparison I rubbed some silver on a gold colored button and that worked fine. Tried black on the the other half and it 100% did not stick. The seller would not return nor refund. Emailed the manufacturer and they said, “the Ebony has been a little more problematic than the other colors.” they also said “we can not garuntee on Amazon since they are not one of our distributors, so your current experience with the product is not something we can really speak to since there are factors that someone outside of our distribution may not be accounting for (storage temperature, product age in the tube, etc.)” Ok fine. However, my tube of silver is probably 15 years old. The cap cracked the first time I used it, yet 15 years later in a semi sealed tube it still works fine. The manufacturer went on to say, “ Customers can experience a grainy consistency to the product which if not conducive to your use of the product we encourage you to thin the consistency using turpentine. This is the nature of the pigment in this product. If thinning with turpentine is not process you're interested in I would suggest another color of Rub n' Buff or looking at alternative products like spray finishes.” They also sent a tip sheet that suggested “Cut the tail of the tube and scrape as much of the material as possible into a small glass jar. Pulverize or powder the material, add a few drops of turpentine, and work the product back into a paste using a palette.” Really, no thanks.

This Restored The Finish On My Exterior Door Handle
I love this product--It worked great in a time of desperation. Our family was getting over the flu so we were spraying everything with lysol. When we sprayed our new front door knob and handle (which was a dark rubbed bronze finish, the lysol completely destroyed the finish leaving a light, cloudy, matte finish. It was awful and terribly ugly. I desperately looked on line to see if there was a fix and I found that others had run into the same trouble. One blogger I came across said she had tried this product and it helped a lot. So I thought I'd give it a shot. The product was not very expensive, so when I got it I went to work. I masked off the door around the door knob and handle, and rubbed the stuff on. I let it sit for a minute or two and buffed it, and it gave my door handle a darker and shiny look--not too different from the original. It is not as good as the original surface, but it is a HUGE improvement, and not noticeable to visitors any more.I had never heard of this product before that blog post. It is a hassle to clean up since it is not water soluble, but that is what makes it a good choice for the my exterior door handle. Now that I know of this product I will keep it in mind for other restorative and artistic applications. I know they have other colors too.

Messy!
The media could not be loaded. I have a beautiful large mirror from the 1990’s but it did not match my style. I decided to use this product to make it black and more vibrant in my room. This was VERY messy and I recommend using gloves. The drying time was longer than I expected too. I almost rub it off when it touched but I believe that was the material I used it on. It was difficult to spread around on a busy surface. I also didn’t pay attention to the size of this product but I ended up using 7 of these little tubes.

The bomb
This stuff is the bomb! Such an easy way to update or change frames or other wooden items. Some metal works good but if it has a shiny surface you should try sanding it some or use a top coat of some kind. This review is specifically for Ebony color, but I also have Autumn Gold, which is a copper color. This is my favorite right now as I'm updating my living room with copper accents. I also have Spanish Copper. It is more brown than copper. Perhaps a really aged copper. I used it on a distressed, white, wood, decorative arrow and then highlighted with the Autumn Gold and it turned out great. I've also used the Spanish Copper over the Autumn Gold to tone it down and add dimension. I want to get the red to create a distressed copper look too. Have fun with it. The possibilities are endless!

A bit over priced for the small tube
Dries very quickly. Size was very small. Work in very small areas. Or you might not like the results. Work quickly. I probably need more practice. I may try a different color, if I don’t find something else. And hopefully I will get better results knowing what to expect.

Worked Great - Ebony
I bought a candy jar for a house warming gift. I had their names etched in glass, however, when I filled the jar with candy you could barely see the etching. After watching videos I bought the ebony rub 'n buff to make the etching more noticeably. I put on gloves and rubbed it over the etching using very little. Then immediately wiped off with a paper towel. It adhered to the etching, but not the smooth part of the glass. I applied it twice not seeing too much of a difference on the second application. Now when the jar is filled with candy you can see their names better.
