I had bought a metal rusty style fire pit from B&Q to use as a water feature. It was perfect in that I love the rust look in my garden. It consisted of a large bowl sitting on a matching stand. I set it all up but I found that because it was a rusty style the water went brown, and looked awful coming out of a fountain feature. Yes....I know.....I should have thought of that but I just put it down to a senior moment. Anyway I decided to try and 'line' the inside of the bowl with a waterproof coating of some sort. Took me ages to find anything but I plumped for this one which is especially for concrete garden ponds. One reviewer said she used it successfully on a container made of zinc. So I gave it a go. I gave the inside of the bowl a good sandpapering to smooth the surface and following the instructions on the container painted on four coats. Had to leave it for 72 hours to cure. I then filled it with water and to date. which is one week later. the water is still crystal clear. Hooray....problem solved!!! It does dry shiny as other reviewers have said but that doesn't matter for my purpose. Also I don't know if it has a brown tinge to it because the rusty look is brown anyway. It certainly doesn't look any different, just shiny. So.....my purpose of this review mainly is to let anyone know who is looking for a waterproofing product for metal.....this was perfect for me. If the first coat is still not completely dried it will bond better with the second coat. If it is cured completely, the bonding will diminish. This product is great for stones and bricks etc that has something that it can connect on to, less so for smooth surfaces like plastic or cured G4 for example. However, I have painted over G4 coats as a repair or just to touch-up long after the first coat, and it seems to still bond well. So the short answer is that optimal bonding should happen within 4 hours, hereafter still good though. **Q: Does anyone know if this will dry with wet look I have coping stones that look really nice wet but not very good dry I’m hoping to keep the β€œwet look”** A: It does dry with a wet look but it also darkens the stone. It is a yellowish brown colour when two or three coats have been applied. There is other coatings sold specifically for flags that gives a wet look. You may want to look at those first. G4 is made for ponds where it will not kill the fish, although it would do the job. **Q: Can this be used on a perished linner** A: Well I lcd a bird bath some years ago.with four coats of G4. It has stood a hard life with snow ice and even me scrubbing it so it is tough and is happy with multiple coats, which used a lot of the g4. In your situation I don't know the answer but if it was me and I wasn't risking life & limb if it failed I would give it a go, and use a good few coats. **Q: Is it koi friendly?** A: Sorry, Sony know as I used it to seal a concrete birdbath. Birds seem ok with it. Call their Customer Support, they were very helpful when I spoke to them.
