Fleabag: The Original Play (NHB Modern Plays)

Fascinating Look at the beginnings of the Fleabag Series
This is the stage play from which the TV series was developed. The material is mostly familiar, which is a good thing if you enjoy the material as much as I do! It's a small booklet, but it's fascinating to see how they took this one-woman show and expanded it into a 12-episode series. Very smart writing, very funny, a great item for anyone who's a big fan of the show.

Watch the series first...
I enjoyed this. Even for a slow reader like me, it's a bite-sized read. But it offers a few insights that the TV show doesn't. (There's one plot point that I think was changed from the play to the TV show.) If you enjoyed the TV show, then you might enjoy reading the source material and imagining the evolution onto the small screen.

So Funny!
I don't usually buy/read plays, but I bought this on a bit of a whim, and I'm so glad I did! Hilarious! I haven't watched the show yet, but I plan to after reading this play.

Genius and moving play
Pheobe Waller Bridge created such an awful and wonderful character you hate how much you can relate to. It's sometimes painful to read because the play resonate truth and honestly.

Beautiful, Heartbreaking
I won’t give spoilers. I’ll just say that now that I’ve finished reading the play, all I can think about is my baby guinea pig and how much I wish that I had gotten her a friend.

Gut punch delivered
Hard to judge independently after seeing the show. But I think it still stands on its own and delivers the emotional journey Phoebe strives for, as shared in her preface.

Beautiful
It’s odd to say, but I relate so much to fleabag I’m such little ways. And reading this has changed me. Thank you.

skip it, unless you really want to see how the sausage gets made
if you've watched the show, you've heard all of the best material word-for-word. the bits edited out (lots of nasty fatphobia, animal abuse, etc.) don't really add much insight or humor and just make waller-bridge seem a little more like the out-of-touch rich kid she is. 'fleabag' is a brilliant show. the play, not so much a good read.

Brilliantly funny.
This is the script of the original stage version of Fleabag. The TV series takes many of the incidents hinted at in this script and expands them. I read this before the TV show was announced and was slightly disappointed by the TV version - Fleabag in this script is even more outrageous and debauched! This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys contemporary comedy. It's just a pity that the success of Fleabag had meant that performing licences have been withdrawn for the foreseeable future.

Fleabag rules!
A really dark, yet modern play which I found engrossing. I loved the TV series, and particularly found the wit and humour of this play/series incredible! It's really affecting and incredibly sad yet I've never laughed so much about an interview and a feminist lecture in my life. Really good stuff - just wish I had seen it live!

Not what I expected at all
The TV series was brilliant, and I cannot understand how such genius can come from something like this.It is obviously all in the performance, because reading it is tedious.
