Frequencies [DVD]

Not had my thoughts proveked in a long time
Ignore the low scores, it's one of those films you 'don't get' if you didn't get it. Sci-Fi only in the fact that it steps out of what we know to explore ourselves and challenge ideas of fate over a grand plan,

Britain just can't do sci fi
My economics professor way back in the mists of time once told me "If you buy cheap that's what you get". Why do I never listen or learn!! I got this as it was only a few pence from a marketplace seller and to be honest the money spent was totally wasted on this junk. In a nutshell the story revolves around Humans who have a certain frequency from really low to very high and as things go so far so good. The high frequency was from a girl who to be honest was a complete snob and the low frequency was a boy who was portrayed as a total moron and when these two got together "Nature" always intervened to make sure they never got it going . As they grow up the boy resolves to get with this girl no matter what and so it goes. What could have been a very interesting premise for a film was let down by a very low brow very low budget film and sorry to say yet again a British film totally obsessed by Class and actors with snobby accents and I have seen wood with more expressions than these losers had in their repertoireKeep you money safe and in your pocket

Overall not to bad.
She has the characteristics of a sociopath and is a shame that they put together high frequency with this traits and actually sais in the movie that high frequency people are not empathic is actually the other way around. High frequency people have empathy developed more than low frequency people. What they have done is to switch the roles and characteristics . I know that is a movie and is fiction but do they want to send a message through this movie? The acting was good and the plot and twists made it interesting, overall not to bad but still not a fan of misleading facts.

Stick with it; clever scifi
I wasn't sure at first whether I was going to enjoy this film. The repetition at the start was bordering on tiresome, but bit by bit, it all started to fall into place. It's a very cleverly constructed story; a bit of romance/attraction, slightly dystopian but more importantly an exploration of free will and mind control along with a smattering of quantum physics. The three central characters interact from childhood through to adulthood and the role of each is revealed by flashback which eventually all gels to quite a mind bending conclusion. Great performances all round and this is an understated but powerful tale

An Excellent and unique film
Not at all what it seams to be at first glance. An Interesting idea which is expanded and built upon , well paced with unexpected changes to plot direction.Very well cast , shot and directed. If you prefer formulaic predictable movies maybe this one isn't for you.Very mixed reviews so not for everyone .However it is most definitely worth taking the time to find out for yourself by viewing this film.I really enjoyed it..

“Serious question or polite conversation?”
Written and directed by Darren Paul Fisher and set in a parallel world this is a fascinating, unsettling, intelligent and understated English SF film which gently explores love and attraction, science and philosophy, free will and fate. In this apparently ever-so-slightly alternate world humans possess ‘frequencies’ which determine a person’s luck, love and destiny. The higher the frequency the greater the luck but lower the empathy, and in this universe opposites most certainly don’t attract – until this orthodoxy is challenged by Zak, a young low-frequency-born boy who falls head-over-heels in love with Marie, a high-frequency-born savant in his prep school. We observe Zak and Marie’s brief annual encounters through a series of painfully amusing montages and when an adult Zak professes to Marie that he has found a way to change their frequencies in order to give them compatible resonance she is intrigued and he is hopeful. The film’s structure has three sections – the first two present the same scenes as seen from both Marie and Zak’s perspective while in the final third there are some truly Basil Exposition moments as the narrative becomes more convoluted and hidden motives and forces come to the fore. The restrained acting performances are wonderful (in particular the younger actors) and are totally in keeping with the tone of this unique and absorbing movie while its complexity and mysteries definitely demand multiple viewings. I rented this based on Amazon reviews and will now be purchasing a copy.

Weird in style and surprising in content.
The film raises interesting philosophical inquiries about the nature of fate, the structure of (consensus) reality and the place of anomalies. If you enjoy thinking and postulating about this kind of stuff, you will enjoy this film. I thought the ending was a little odd, but in this sense it fits with the whole film as being odd. It has a flavour of an old 1970's maths or physics education film - it's dry, a little atmospherically dead in places, the characters are deliberately wooden and robotic at times, but the narrative is engaging enough. The biggest disappointment for me was the revelation of the "antidote", which without spoiling the plot, seemed a little lame in terms of being acceptable even for them, since even on this level, because we know that all individuals experience the same phenomena subjectively and therefore respond differently, there can be no resultant unified field in this way, but that angle was never explored. It was a tad too simplistic rather than simple in my opinion. If you watch it, you have to not only suspend disbelief but also some reason and learn to accept that in terms of the value sci-fi offers us, generally, which includes that it rarely adheres to actual scientific enquiry or laws and that this film is no exception, then it's rather good, and definitely memorable.
