Chunky for a disc lock but a quality item
It's a great lock, sturdy and seemingly well built. Sensitivity is well adjusted, it hasn't gone off without a reason, rain won't affect it. Ok, so it's heavy and bulky to carry, but that weight helps it to be stable and not be sensitive to light touches. It's also eye-catchingly yellow and hopefully acts as a visual deterrent. It's not very loud but will make itself heard when needed. Fitting it on my Shiver can occasionally be a little fiddly but most of the time I manage to hit the right angle and fit it on first attempt. Verdict: pricey for a disc lock, but sure gives a feeling of additional security...(Added image of how the lock sits on the brake disk of the Shiver - plenty of room for bigger brakes in the lock)

Excellent lock, well made
Bit of a monster, expensive but a substantial disc lock that is very well made. It fits my BMW S1000RR no problem and the bike can't be moved without setting it off, so I haven't had to fit an alarm which drains the bike's battery. Like all security it's a deterrent, if they have specifically targeted your bike you've had it regardless, but it will deter the opportunist who can find easier pickings than having to deal with this yellow monster. It's one for the garage really, although it comes with a carry case it's too heavy to carry around, if you want a mobile disc lock there are much smaller and cheaper alternatives. But for your main in-garage disc lock it is excellent. I have other ABUS padlocks and they are top quality too.

Excellent bit of kit for your tank bag.
Let's start by saying that if someone wants to nick your bike then they are going to nick your bike. That said, anything you can do to put them off makes your bike less of a target. For that reason I use an Almax Series IV chain and a Squire lock. I have also now bought and started to use this disk lock.It is solidly constructed and looks very difficult to attack. It is not the loudest of alarms but you can certainly hear it. It will give a warning set of beeps before going off.It is not affected by the wind or rain. I've actually given it a coating of ACF50 to protect against the elements, if you've got it or a similar product in your garage for your bike then I would recommend using it on this lock also.Handy to stick on the bike if you're heading into the shops. Great to put on overnight with other deterrents.

Good disc lock!
I got a Ducati Monster 796.It is a little bit tricky to get the lock on the disc, due to the disc lock getting stuck on the alloy slightly. But after a few tries you will get the trick on how to apply it.Afterwards the arming time of the lock is way too quick with about 2-3 seconds. I sometimes end up needing to open the lock and applying it again due to the alarm triggering already. But besides that, the lock looks very stable and secure, the alarm is loud enough and it doesn't tend to trigger false alarms. Thus 4 stars. 5 stars if the alarm arming time would be adjustable or shifted from 2/3 seconds to something like 8 or 10.

Terrible design, atrocious durability
Let's just talk about the usability aspect. You can't truly disarm this alarm - it's armed whenever the locking pin is in contact with the other side. This means every unlock is a race to get it off before it's triggered. I'd expect better from such an expensive piece of kit, but it's fairly standard amongst locks, so whatever. However, this also meant that unless I was careful every single time I put the alarm away in my top-box, it would arm in there and promptly run itself flat. I often had to pull over to move it about so as to 'disarm' it, as it had started going off in my top-box.When I tried to change the battery, part of the cheap plastic body containing the alarm unit and battery compartment snapped off. Partly my fault, I'll admit, but I also noticed that there was water ingress into the battery compartment. This compartment has a rubber seal around it suggesting it should be waterproof, but simply isn't. This doesn't leave a good impression of Abus' quality. Some months later, the alarm was broken - it made repeated clicking noises and the green light flashed on every so often. However, the lock still worked - just about. As said in many other reviews, there are two ball bearings crucial to this lock's function which are held in place by nothing but pure faith and hope. In addition, the locking mechanism is wholly exposed to the elements, with not even an attempt on Abus' part to weatherproof it - even with regular applications of lubricant, this lock eventually seized up, snapped a key and forced me to run back home to grab pliers to remove the broken part and unlock it, at which point the lock was promptly chucked into the nearest bin like the rubbish that it is.I had hoped that I could expect engineering quality from a renowned German brand like Abus, but unfortunately, I was simply conned out of £120 and got neither a well-designed, nor a well-built lock. In complete honesty, I've had better quality and design from Chinese generics (one of which even let you disarm its alarm properly!).Steer clear, unless you hate both your money and your bike.

Does the job and then some
After some individual decided to try and kidnap my bike, busted up a £40 disc lock that did it's job and prevented the bike from been stolen, I decided to invest in this little beauty.Great piece of kit, heavier and sturdier than a standard disc lock, but is a bit fiddlier than a normal disc lock to use, took a few attempts to get used to it and not set the alarm off when attaching it.Must admit that I did think the price was a bit steep but if it prevents my bike from becoming a joy riders bit of fun, it'll be worth it. Also I have been known to set off without removing the disc lock, come on we've all done it, the fact that the alarm sounds helps to prevent this idiotic move from happening!Based on the short time I've owned this lock, I would recommend it.The second picture shows the lock fitted to my Yamaha XVS 1100.

Works well - until it falls apart.
Works well - for a while. First lock fell apart after 4 months of use. Replacement lock fell apart after 6 months. As others have mentioned, the design of the locking-arm retention system is too flimsy for repeated use.

Preis / Leistung TOP, einfach ABUS !
