No. If there is no CO in the air, the value will be 0 on CO alarm display. You can put the carbon monoxide detecor and a incense stick on a fire-proof surface in a sealing box. Then check the value on CO alarm display.

The unit is advertised with a blue iluminated screen but mine is not iluminated is it broken ?

Only when the co alarm triggers alarm, the screen will be lighted with blue. It is gray when it's in standby status. You can press the test button to try it.
