LOVE THIS BOOK!!
My daughter chose this book to read for two weeks straight after we got it. She still picks it most nights. We love the stories and pictures.(Fair warning: There are a few of the stories that are a little dark for young children. More along the lines of the original Grimm fairytales, if you get my meaning.)

I’ve always wondered why a bear’s tail is stumpy
This book answers all the age-old questions of life, like why a bear has a stumpy tail, and what happens when a turtle matches wits with a coyote. A solid collection from around the world, you’ll find classics like The Three Little Pigs, as well as new favorites from Asia and Africa.I purchased this book for my 4th grader who loves tall tales, and fables. Having recently finished a collection of Aesop’s fables, she was eager for more exciting stories of talking animals and fantastical adventures. We were not disappointed. The stories are a good length for kids to read aloud, there are not a lot of complicated words, and they are usually between 1 and 3 pages long. I like that the stories are from all over the world, which gives us an opportunity to learn about different cultures. I would recommend this book to anyone with a child who loves fables, or myths about animals and nature.

Our best purchase so far
Our best purchase so far. I have started homeschooling, my daughter is an incredibly self motivated Aspie.(Started teaching herself multiplication, four languages, etc) and we have used this book to inspire a Unit Study learning approach. With the study of "Why the Cheetah's Cheeks are Stained with Tears" we learned about velocity/acceleration (physics - by comparison via youtube), cheetahs (biology), the art and music and dance of the Zulu tribe, geography (continuing on from her geographic instruction from Africa - also she has a friend in school from South Africa so this helped inspire her) - I adore this book. I've already put on order others by the same author/publisher. It's a great tool for learning and exploring. I wish I had had access to this during my school years.

Enjoyable and Inspirational
I love how McAllister put together A World Full of Animal Stories. Being able to find out the origin of stories about animals we have heard for years was fun as an adult, but also excellent for children to learn as they heard the stories. My current classroom is studying animals of all kinds and it was fun to consult the book to find out if there were any stories about our animal and where it originated. This book also inspired wonderful thinking about writing animal tales.

Magical stories from around the world.
This book is so wonderful!! I bought it for my 7 year old niece and I’m ordering one for myself right now. It is a real gem. If you like a sterelized american version of things it sure might not be for you but I think it’s crucial to expose kids to the rest of the world and foreign cultures. These tales are from all around the world and are simply magical. Most of them carry a moral message too which is great because it can leave the child to reflect afterwards or create a good opportunity to disscuss about moral topics after reading the story with them. I can’t reccommend it enough.
