Not Sure What to Say
I bought this because it had good reviews; I'm trying to figure out why. Now, to be fair, I only played the songs I cared most about getting:Blue ChristmasHave Yourself a Merry Little ChristmasI'll Be Home for ChristmasWhite ChristmasPresented by Hal Leonard as: "Unique, Distinctive Piano Arrangements of 20 Holiday Songs. Play 20 of your favorite holiday songs in these beautifully distinctive arrangements for piano solo! These Christmas gems get new and unique treatments for a fun and fresh presentation. Explore new styles and enjoy these classics with a bit of a twist!" Artist: Various; Format: Softcover; Instrumentation: PianoListed as having various arrangers, maybe the ones I played were all by the same person? Because they certainly had the same sort of sound and tempo. As for difficulty, that's objective. There were some runs, some embellished areas (like a singer adding extra trills), and notes like 'Soft Jazz Beat' or such. I don't do jazz, or soul; I'm not professionally trained. But I do know what sounds pretty, and these songs didn't. Frankly, "White Christmas" was ugly--it must be "unique" and "fresh" because it wasn't enjoyable to play, or listen to. (I really wanted this song. Why couldn't they have kept the beauty?)I think sample pages and sample audio are vital to minimizing disappointment. If these had been provided for this book, I could've sight-read or even played it.I have an abundance of Christmas carol piano books, but only a handful of secular song arrangements. Unfortunately, this won't become one of them. I bought it as a birthday gift to myself--I sent it back.
