This is a brilliant replacement for manual nail smoothing/buffing systems
This is a brilliant replacement for manual nail smoothing/buffing systems. The heads are high quality (i.e. they don't wear out/fall apart after first use!) and it's very easy to use with the interchangeable heads simply clicking on/off the head of the system stick. The AA battery supplied is also a Duracell battery so even that doesn't fail on you in the first five minutes of use. Before buying anything I always look at reviews where people haven't found a product to be very good, and since buying it I think there are a few points to note that may be useful: - if you press the head too hard onto your nails there is an automatic cut-out system that stops the stick from working. This isn't because the product isn't robust enough, it's protecting you so you don't file the surface of your nail away! It's useful to remember (particularly on first time of use) that the white powder you see is the surface of your nail being sanded away, and you can rub away the surface too much and make your nails very thin if you are over enthusiastic. If you have very ridged nails that haven't had much care previously, I'd suggest you take the approach of 'a work in progress' and aim to achieve smooth nails over a number of weeks rather than buffing away like crazy on first use and risk damaging your nails. - Each of the heads are numbered 1 to 3 and designed to be used in that numerical order: **the first head is harsh and designed for taking out lumps, bumps, ridges from the surface of the nail and, I guess, could be used to file your nail ends. Personally, having used a manual smoothing/buffing process for many years, I still preferred to use my trusty glass nail file to shape and smooth the ends of my nails rather than continuing to use this head after smoothing the nail surface. Other reviewers have noted that it didn't seem strong enough to shape the nail and some noted this was when the cut-out system triggered; my view is it's probably fine for just touching up/smoothing out the shape but currently I'd still use my glass file to define shape - mainly because to avoid splitting your nails you should file your nail-ends in one direction (from either side towards the middle); this system is filing in two directions (rubbing 'backwards-forwards') and I would be worried would lead to your nails splitting if used for filing. But that really is simply a matter of personal preference! **the second head smooths the nail surface with a finer grade polishing surface, and the third head will give a buffed finish. Again, if this is the first time you've used a smoothing/buffing system I wouldn't expect to achieve a high shine on first use - if you do, you are likely damaging your nails and making them thin and therefore weak. Aim to build up a smooth surface gradually, and therefore a lovely buffed shine, over a number of weeks. I also bought the Scholl nail oil and it has really improved my nails - do remember though it is an oil and not a varnish; although it goes on shiny it will disappear into your nail. Finally, I'd add that this is ideal for both men and women. The caution I'd put out to men who are giving this a go for the first time is 'think Black&Decker' - this is basically a sanding machine with corse and fine grain papers! Take the same approach to your nails as you would with your prized table or woodwork - go gently, and expect to achieve results over several weeks instead of taking your nail-bed off in the first session by being over enthusiastic! I can highly recommend this product. I also have the Scholl Express Pedi for smoothing rough skin on the feet and using that in conjunction with the Velvet Smooth Nail System is absolutely getting me back to having beautiful feet that feel wonderful. So: Scholl's systems do 'exactly what they say on the tin' in my opinion - good quality products that deliver excellent results. Hope this is helpful ... :o)

Great for toenails, which is what I bought it for.
This is a good product but not quite as efficient as a crystal nail fail. However, for keeping ingrown toe nails under control it is excellent and that is what I bought it for. It rounds off the nail easily and smoothly so less chance of the nail growing inwards as sometimes they do when cut. For the toenails it is easier to use than a file.

Nail file
I only give this three stars as it is basically a nail file with slight vibration. Not really impressed with this at all.

Not nice to use
This file/buffer is not nice to use, although is easy to use it gives a horrible vibrating sensation and the results aren't great. Better off sticking to a manual one. Don't waste your money.

Purchase of the Year!
Hands down the best item I’ve bought this year: my nails had been damaged from a gel nail salon treatment. One use of this device and my nails looked restored! I absolutely love it!

Not sure the product and effort is worth the result. I was disappointed with the finish. The polishing head didn’t really do anything. I get better results with my manual shiner.

GREAT PRICE

Dommage.
