PLANE DVD
If you want a well made, violent, unpretentious thriller, made on location with a good if somewhat cliche'd plot....Look no further. Starring Gerard Butler as the surpringly tough, enetrprising captain of a jet that goes down on a very dangerous island, with Mike Colter as a very big baaad man who turns hero (well almost), the film tells it's story in a well paced 105 minutes. The large support cast are all unknown to me but work well, particularly the islands gangsters. Pretty violent at times (our captain takes some serious beatings), huge loud gun battles, with frequent use of the "F" word, but here, I feel in context, as I would be swearing like a trooper if I was on that plane. So...a film for Saturday Nt perhaps with a glass of something? I enjoyed it, even with the lack of starpower...perhaps a good thing? DVD is excellent quality, good sound and subtitles and some extras for those who want them (not seen by me).

A TENSE WATCH
Gerard Butler plays airline-pilot Brodie Torance working out of Singapore for 'Trailblazer Airlines'It's New-Years eve, he captains flight 119 to Honolulu via Tokyo, scheduled with just 14 passengers on-board plus a homicide suspect Louis (Mike Colter) handcuffed and accompanied by a guard, plus three flight crew and co-pilot Samuel (Yoson An)Hearing there was a violent storm en-route Brodie asks to alter the flight path to avoid the storm, he was told to stick to the planned route.During the flight they indeed ran into the storm, a lightning strike took out the planes systems, they were now with no power and losing height fast, two on-board would die in the turmoil, they were blind, not really knowing where they now were.As luck would have it, they found land as the plane headed for a crash-landing it was a small Philippine Island....the plane was landed on a road spotted. With no idea where they were and no contact with the outside World, Brodie, taking the prisoner Louis uncuffed along with him went in search of help.Unbeknown to Brodie and his fellow stranded passenger's and crew the Island was under the control of a terrorist group.Whilst Brodie was in search of help the passengers and crew were captured for ransom by the terrorists.Brodie with Louis would attempt to free them, as luck would have it having identified where the plane had gone-down the authorities had sent a small task-force in to help. Will the captain, passengers and crew escape ?A pretty tense affair, fast moving with some good action sequences to enjoy.Worth a watch (good 4k presentation)

Ridiculous
If you are a fan of King Leonidas or his tipical characters, you are happy to watch (once). The underlying plot is ridiculous: an old cart (DC 9 or equivalent, probably to save money, but also to avoid worrying airlines and manufacturers using a modern aircraft) struck by lightning loses all control but has 10 minutes of flight left in which in the middle of a storm in the Pacific our hero not only finds an island, but instead of making an emergency landing on the beach he goes flying over the jungle until he finds an abandoned (highway)road on which he lands without problems (and from which will restart ...). And the ungrateful passengers (who generally, at least the Italians, applaud the pilots at every trivial landing) are almost offended not to find a red carpet to welcome them. The island is populated by "pirates" (they should be Islamic rebels but the detail is overlooked) waiting to take hostages while the Filipino government niche. The always omnipotent US armed forces (moreover present in force in the area) this time do nothing, leaving room for a handful of mercenaries and the "private" initiative of the commander who has become a commando, backed by an assassin who pays for the sin of youth ' enlisting in the Legion and fighting as a Jason Bourne operative (and then reclaiming his role as a bad guy but not too much). Dulcis in fundo, the hostages freed, everything ends "well", even with the plane and the commander punctured by bullets. In the end it's a B movie that deserves one star, but the above fans will still appreciate it.

a Butler classic
Nothing surprising, just a exciting action movie with Gerald playing a routine good guy who gets into trouble. Some clichΓ©s, but a standard perfect made movie.
