Riveting story about the Christian church in China
We had previously read the story of "The Heavenly Man" about Brother Yuan, a Christian who was an evangelist in the house church movement in China. This book is his son's story which was interesting to us because we could see parts of the same story from a different perspective. But - even if you had never read the father's story, Isaac's story is very interesting as a stand-alone. You see what it is like for many who live in China, and learn more about the experience of house church Christians. Many people have been imprisoned simply for participating in unauthorized Christian worship so you do see the lack of freedom of worship and the consequences for simple worship - jjust being at a prayer meeting can lead to imprisonment. But the house church Christians have a very deep persevering faith despite persecution. The focus of Son of the Underground is Isaac Liu's personal story in this context, how these things affected him as a child, a teen and a young adult, how he had to leave China and now represents the Chinese house church Christians in the wider world and speaks on their behalf. Fascinating story that was hard to put down.

To love God
A faithful Chinese witness to our Lord Jesus Christ, the son of another Christian witness, learns through suffering the cost of being a true follower of our Lord. The book is inspiring and uplifting.

We love these people
These are some of today's Christian Heroes. If you haven't read his father's book The Heavenly Man you want to read it too. We read it when it first came out many years ago. Our lives were challenged and changed forever. We love these people. They are sold out and dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Good choice.
This book show me that when a young man has gone through a lot as a child. There will came a time when a very important decision will be made. Do i follow God or do I just stop believing and take an easier road. This young man had many difficult experiences but the hand of God was in his life.I am glad to say that after a lot of doubt and prayer. The Lord show him the way and he was willing to followed it.A good example for young people nowadays.

One boy’s journey with the Lord.
Enjoyed this very much. Parts were riveting! But it also tells me that our lives are mostly one day at a time but God knows how to guide us.

This is an amazing story. I had formerly read his father's story and have been so moved by it, that I read it about 3 times. I was glad to be able to read his son's account of those years. Both his father's and Isaac's story are riveting, and deepened my faith in God.

Very good book
If you have read "The Heavenly Man" that is about the horrific tortures & trials Isaac's father experienced living in China as a Christian, you will be encouraged with Isaac's story. It gives you the 'the other story' about the family while the father was in prison, etc. It doesn't go into great detail, but lets the reader know life was very hard on them. The writing is simple and it is an easy read.

Interesting
Having read The Heavenly Man, I wondered how the family, particularly the children, would fare In light of their father's persecution. Would they give up? Would they be disheartened? I didn't know, which is why I purchased this particular book. I wasn't disappointed. It gave me tremendous insight, not only into the family but also the community surrounding them. Buy the book. It is worth the money.

An Excellent and exciting life story!
I had read "The Heavenly Man " few years ago, casual browsing for new books brought me to Son of the underground. An excellent and exciting life story. Written in simple narrative format. The narrative is so good that You can imagine the challenges of Issac, his mother and sister, like watching a movie. Looking forward to a second edition with more details.

Son of the Underground
After reading the Heavenly Man, I found this story of the son quite captivating. His story was helpful in gaining considerably more insight to how the family handled all that happened in those years when his parents were severely persecuted.

Worth reading!
Some years ago I read the Heavenly Man and was deeply impressed at the factual account of brother Yun's time in China. When I spotted this I was keen to read Isaac's story as well. It is quite different, but I was not disappointed. I never tire of hearing accounts of the way God works in the lives of His servants, even when they are coming to terms with their attempt at obedience. Like the Bible Isaac does not cover up his failures, but learns from them and allows God to direct his way. Yes, definitely worth reading!

Read this book!
Wonderful to read about Isaac's life so far. His experiences are beyond what most of us in the comfortable west can comprehend, but his faith, together with support from fellow Christians, have enabled him to write this amazing book. It encourages me to trust God in every aspect of my life - "His grace is sufficient".
