What does it taste like?

If you are familiar with Big Boy restaurants in the US --it tastes a lot like their seasoning salt. The main ingredients are celery salt, onion, sea salt, and something a hint sweet. Excellent on fries/hamburgers, and in deviled eggs. The SPICE ISLANDS brand is great !!

Will this spice be in date?

Yes, this is a in demand product. I have never purchased a spice outdated from Amazon.

What is the difference between this item and one that looks identical but says "gourmet blends" and costs over $9.00??

The one I use Frim SPICE ISLANDS says “Beau Monde seasoning” with a net weight of 3.5 oz. I paid less than $4 and it’s the only thing I use. For me - there’s no advantage to a more expensive kind. Good luck!
