Does the part that pushes the food down slide easily or is it a stop and start movement?

It slides easily but if you use it 2 or 3 times a day it lasts about 5 or 6 days and then becomes unusable. I went through five of them in less than a month, even though I kept the them filled with water between uses.Very irritating.

Is this etched or ink markings? With oil do the markings rub off?

It seems to be raised on the plastic. My ink, or whatever it is, did not come off at all. I ran it through my dishwasher once or twice. Having said that, I only used the syringe for about 2 weeks when my dog was sick and not eating. She is better now, so I haven't used it in a while, but it looks like new to me. Hope that helps.

Does the syringe drip if not pointed up?

Water will drip, but thicker consistency rarely does.
