Wise Wizard Games Star Realms: Deckbuilding Card Game

This was my first foray into this type of card game; a few points for people who haven't played games like this before, or like myself have only distant memories of the Pokemon TCG: * This box contains everything that is required to play for a two players. The contents of each box are identical and so if you want to play 4/6 player you'll need an extra pack (or two). * There are expansions available and, like the main deck, they are a fixed set of cards. The game doesn't doesn't feel incomplete without them and they are definitely optional. * It's worth having a practice game where both players play with an open hand if you aren't familiar with the game type; some of the rules take a bit of thinking through before you understand them! The game itself is well paced and has enough depth to allow different strategies to interact in a chaotic manor. Setup only takes a minute; with a game taking around 40 minutes (largely dependent on how quick each player is making decisions; we tend to take our time!). One other thing I will note is although the cards are good quality the box they come in is pretty flimsy; coupled with the fact it is about a centimeter bigger than the cards in each direction means the box quickly falls apart if transported in a rucksack! Consider buying a deckbox if you plan to transport them carelessly and frequently like me! A full deck with the 4 'Crisis' expansions fits neatly in a 200 card magic the gathering deckbox. In summary an enjoyable space themed two player deckbuilding game, which at around £12 is an excellent and cheap choice for a first deckbuilding game.

Though there are an assortment of expansions for this Trading Card Game out there, you don't NEED any of them; this base set has all you require for a fully functional game. That said, I would recommend pairing it with the 'Colony Wars' expansion for a much-expanded experience. The game as played by the rules - assorted variants for assorted numbers of players are given in the provided rule sheets - is fun and reasonably easy to learn and get used to. However, I find one of the best things about it to be the fact that you can very easily come up with your own rules and your own game. The cards almost beg you to do so, in fact. (I've made various custom dice and tokens for it). The set consists of cards (with some very nice artwork) belonging to four factions vying to colonize and expand within the universe. The organic, so-called 'Blob' faction - whose rather beautiful bio-craft mostly look like weirdly mutated sea creatures - the Trade Federation, essentially just out to make a profit, the Machine Cult, mechanistic and more or less robotic, and the warmongering Star Empire... Totally love the Blob faction myself. The cards portray both spaceships for each faction and bases (planetary and orbital), each faction having different strengths but being basically evenly matched. Trade and alliances between factions can be fostered, as well as just trying to blast each other to perdition. The set also contains some cards featuring unaligned vessels that can be captured and employed by any faction - or used a space pirates or such, depending how you customize the game. There are also score cards. A cheap option as opposed to some TCGs (at the time of writing) and excellent value for money. A highly adaptable sci-fi TCG. With this and the Colony Wars Set, there's great scope for galactic adventure.

Really fun quick game to play with a friend. I often end up getting this out when I'm too tired for a boardgame but still want to play something. Plays differently every time so it doesn't become monotonous.

One of the best tabletop games I own (and I own lots); easy to play yet complex, a mix of strategy and chance, very addictive, compact and easy to carry around, awesome graphics. I gave this to my 18 year old cousin for Christmas, and it was his favourite present. All of us teenagers/young adults spent Christmas arguing over who got to play it next. Gives you a sense of a detailed universe with different space factions endlessly battling, and cities drifting in space and massive war ships, and rusty old transporter ships... Awesome. Plus the score-keeping method is revolutionary; your score is printed on cards, and when you gain or lose health you get change for your score cards like they're cash. We sometimes borrow the score cards for other games because they're so useful and fun. The game's only for two players, but if you buy a second starter deck (preferably a different one, so you get new ships and ports!) you can make it a two-player game. Basically every starter deck you add adds two players. There are many different ways to play multiplayer detailed inside the box. There are also expansions for the game, but it isn't necessary to buy them to have fun; you get SO many cards that you never run out of the deck during the game, and it takes several games before you'll see all of the cards. This makes the game highly replayable! All in all, definitely worth buying if you like tabletop games.

This deck building game definitely features as one of the best there is at the moment. Still the cardboard tuck box could have been done from perhaps thicker, more durable material. Overall happy with this purchase, supplier delivered on time.

A great deck builder, easy to learn but requires description making, artwork is great, games can be won and lost in an average of 30 minutes.

I'll be brief here, this is a great game. It's compact - small box of cards with everything you need. Easy to understand - Includes instructions that are easy to use/ follow. It's fast - Games can last from 5 to 20 minutes depending on your experience. It's fun - You both start with the same cards and you build your decks separately. Loads of replay value - No two games are truly the same and there's additional rules that open up for multiplayer and other variants. Overall excellent, but there's always 1 thing that goes slightly wrong and this is it... The point cards (influence/authority) those cards are a pain just use dice, tokens or a counter app makes play faster and better. Oh... Yeah this game is really good value too!

I like this game enough that I've bought it for three different friends! Rules are simple and mostly consist of reading the cards, but complex enough that you can play it for hours. Each game lasts 15-20 minutes on average, though if you combine decks for 3-4 player games it gets a lot longer. I'm a big boardgames / cardgames fan, and this is one of my all time favourites. The fact that it's so cheap and portable appeals too. There are expansions and extra card packs if you want them, but in my opinion the base game is fine as it is.

Arrivato nei tempi; personalmente ritirato all'ufficio postale, modalità che consiglio a tutti se hanno vicino casa un ufficio aperto post 18. Andiamo al gioco: deckbuilding fantastico. Detto che altre recensioni hanno spiegato abbastanza bene le regole, faccio comunque un breve recap. Fondamentalmente le meccaniche sono quelle dei vecchi giochi di carte collezionabili MA non si necessità di acquisti di bustine per costruire il mazzo. Comperando il mazzo base si ha tutto quello che serve per giocare in 2 (in realtà anche in 4 con qualche piccola modifica - google è vostro amico ;) ). I mazzo va "costruito" al volo. Entrambi partono con un mazzo di 8 navi che valgono una "moneta", e 2 che valgono 1 "attacco". Al centro del tavolo, la trade row: 5 carte (+1, sempre acquistabile) che il giocatore può "acquistare" tramite le "monete" giocate durante il turno. Le carte acquistate vanno sul mazzo degli scarti; quando si finisce il mazzo di pesca, si rimescolano gli scarti per creare quello nuovo (e quindi le carte acquistate sono disponibili ad essere pescate). Per tutti i dettagli vi rimando al sito del gioco, aggiungo solo che le carte (basi e navi) sono di 4 fazioni differenti, tutte con le proprie peculiarità. La componente fortuna, trattandosi di carte, è media (anche se la scelta delle carte da inserire nel mazzo è quasi totalmente ad appannaggio ai giocatori) La lingua è in inglese, ma al massimo saranno 3-4 parole in tutto da imparare ("draw", "scrap", "discard" "hand"). Consiglio le bustine di qualità medio-alta per le carte, visto che in una partita si rimescolano anche una 10-15ina di volte. Unico difetto: alle carte per segnare i punti autorità (ovvero i punti vita del gioco) preferisco un semplice foglio di carta. Acquisto consigliato, soprattutto se cercate un gioco per 2 rapido ma profondo.

Un sencillo Deck Builder. Se juego rapidisimo, tiene buena tactica y es muy facil de transportar ya que todas las cartas del juego caben en la caja. Viene con muchas cartas para jugar a gusto hasta 2 personas. Las expansiones te permiten introducir mas gente. Es una excelente implementacion de un juego PvP/Pelea con mecanica de Deck Builder.

Fun game which can be played in 15-20 minutes. Seems complicated at first but really easy to get into, especially with all the youtube videos out there and the free app (with in-app purchases). There is a fair bit of luck involved but strategy certainly plays a role too.

The game is super fun and fast paced. Good quality and nice variety of cards to play. Each game comes down to the last turn or two, a nail-biter every time! Highly recommended!

Nachdem "Colony Wars" schon ein Hit war, habe ich mir das originale "Star Realms" gleich dazugekauft, um die Karten mischen und noch mehr Abwechslung in die Partien zu bringen. Das Original ist die Basis für das gesamte schnelle Deckbuilding-System. Positive Aspekte * Der Ursprung des Erfolgs: Das Basisspiel ist genial einfach und konzentriert sich auf die Kernmechaniken des Deckbuildings: schnell Karten kaufen, kämpfen, Autorität gewinnen. Es ist der perfekte Einstieg ins System. * Super Ergänzung zu Colony Wars: Der Hauptgrund für den Kauf ist das Mischen. Zusammen mit "Colony Wars" hat man eine riesige Kartenvielfalt und noch mehr verrückte Synergien, die man im Deck ausprobieren kann. Das erhöht den Wiederspielwert ins Unendliche. * Geht super schnell: Wie auch die Erweiterung, ist das Spiel rasant. Man spielt es schnell runter, was es ideal für den Spieleabend zwischendurch macht oder um einen Abend zu starten/beenden. * Starke Fraktionen: Die vier Fraktionen (Blobs, Handelsföderation, Imperium, Schrottsammler) sind schon im Basisspiel toll ausbalanciert und ermöglichen unterschiedliche Spielstile. Neutrale Aspekte * Keine: Das Spiel ist in sich rund und als Basispaket perfekt. Negative Aspekte * Keine: Für das, was es ist – ein schnelles, kompaktes, strategisches Kartenspiel – ist das Original "Star Realms" einfach eine Top-Leistung. Bewertung und Fazit Das Original "Star Realms" ist ein Pflichtkauf für jeden, der schnelle Deckbuilding-Spiele mag, und die ideale Ergänzung zur "Colony Wars" Box. Zusammen bilden sie ein riesiges, spaßiges Kartenspiel, das man immer wieder auf den Tisch bringen kann. Man kann es sowohl separat als auch gemischt spielen. Absoluter Tipp für Strategie- und Kartenspiel-Fans!
