Best trip tool!
A great tool to prep for a trip. You’ll get ideas of restaurants, sights, transportation options and everything in between. The suggested walking tours were some of the best! I wouldn’t leave home without it!

Typical Rick Steves book. And that’s a GOOD thing!
I like Rick Steves’ philosophy on traveling and I like his books, tv and radio shows, videos and podcasts. Will probably sign up for one of his tours sooner or later. So I liked this book too. My only complaint is that there’s exactly two paragraphs about Crete, a good bit of that devoted to suggestions that you go to one of the other islands instead. Crete is where we’re headed. Sigh. But there’s SO much good info about Greek culture, history and food that I’m still happy with the book. Not to mention the great section on Athens, which made me realize that as long as we have to transit through Athens on the way to Crete anyway, we’d be idiots not to stay over a day or three and enjoy the sights there.

A must for planning on short notice
I put together a 9-day trip within a month’s notice thanks to this book. I just wish I didn’t spend more than a day in Athens (it’s dirty) and I wish there was a strong warning about not traveling to Greece in the summer. The locals said that because of climate change, last summer and this summer have had worse heatwaves than ever and they can’t stand it either. It was over 100 degrees F and the Acropolis kept closing it was so hot. The islands were even too freaking hot with little wind. If you’re from Baghdad, maybe Greece is okay in the summer, otherwise stay home or go anywhere else!

Excellent resource for travelling around Greece.
We used this book on our '23 summer trip to Athens and Anti-Paros. It was an excellent resource for Athens. We did the self guided audio tours around the Placa and Acropolis/Parthenon. The audio tours are separate applications that you install on your phone. Perhaps you don't need the book for those, but the book helps out in getting around and filling you in on obvious and not so obvious sights. I highly recommend it. I think the only drawback was the fact that I was more interested in learning about the history than my children. The children did stick with the walking tours for the most part, but they did get bored of the audio bits.

The book saved me lots of time and money-very valuable, well organized but I wish they had included Crete where I am spending a week.

Really detailed guide to the major archeological sites in particular, as well as some of the places beyond the Peleponnese that you might want to visit. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the sites really rubs off and we used it as a companion when touring each site. It doesn't really cover some of the smaller places one might expect and rather seems to be his pick of his favourites but we found it worked really well alongside the Rough Guide our on 3 week trip
