Much preferred the solid plate compared to others. There were other reviews about color mismatches and while not the EXACT fog, I prefer this as it complements the nest for perfectly, and a close enough match to give it depth

I have a fog colored Nest, but all of the available wall trims (aside from ones sold by Google) do not seem to match the color accurately. So I decided to get a silver one. Perfect! With the device's mirror finish, silver blends in perfectly and makes wherever your place your thermostat seem very high-tech.

This feels and looks very good, it's made from metal with a decent thickness to feel good and looks apart. I think it's a great value if you are looking to expand the footprint of your nest thermostat.One thing to be aware of if you have any type of existing rectangular thermostat on the wall, there may be a chance that this wall plate does not cover up the holes or marks that were behind the original thermostat. I purchased a many for the thermostats in my house and only two locations were suitable, the other six had defects outside of the circle. This is not the fault of the wall plate, more of the builder or installers who did a sloppy job on the original install. The two locations had thermostat wires coming out of a 3/4" hole in the wall which worked. The other locations there were 3" holes or long gashes on the people trying to locate the thermostat wires and needed drywall repairs to install a nest without Wallplates.

I have only two wires in the walls. The thermostats are so far from the furnace that rewiring is not feasible for an amateur. Fortunately Nest has a power module that allows these to be used. So that's what I did. Wiring to the Taco controller requires some research, but it is easy once you find their instructions. With that done the two of these that I bought control the two zone valves for heating. The interface and feel aren't as nice as the original Nest thermostats, but once they are configured you seldom need to touch them. I used to phone app to set the schedule and when it noticed I always increased the temperature 1 degree in the evening it adjusted the 'comfort' setting automatically. It also seems to have learned what it takes to heat the house and brings the heating on early so that it is warm when it is scheduled to be warm.

It looks nice but marks up easily. It can be cleaned off but still seems like you need to have clean hands before touching the thermostat. Also docked a star because the Nest mount screw heads don’t sit below or flush with the holes so you can’t screw this onto the wall first and then the nest bracket. You can only have this sit under the break and then screw both this plate and the bracket at the same time.
