26"/65cm Lantern Softbox One Step Quick Release, 360° Light Diffuser with Skirt

Great bit of kit, did make my light a bit top heavy so bought a bigger lighting stand too

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the NEEWER 26"/65cm Lantern Softbox, and I must say, it has quickly become an essential part of my lighting setup. Very good quality 26"/65cm Lantern Softbox from Neewer made with excellent materials which gives this a premium look and feel to it, as I have come to expect from Neewer. In the past I have stayed away from this type of softbox as I have heard they are a real pain to setup alining the rods to the correct position but after reading the product description I thought I would give this one a try as it sounded very simple. I can confirm and very happy to say this is very easy to setup all you have to do once you have it out of the bag is hold it so the bowen mount is in your hand and have the bottom of the softbox on the floor and push downwards looking into the hole of the bowen mount you will see the ring of the frame keep pushing down till this reaches the hook at the bottom of the softbox and you will see/hear it hook in place. There is still a bit of adjusting the rods but not a great amount just moving them to the left or right to match the seams of the softbox I don’t think this is really necessary but I still did it but even doing this I was setup and ready in about a minute. Comes with a skirt this is so you can control the direction of the light more precisely like a square softbox this is also very simple to setup wrap it around the softbox then using the velcro on the skirt attach it to the velcro on the softbox again took me less than a minute to install. One thing I will say this is more for when you have the softbox facing straight down as it is fabric if you have the softbox in a horizontal position the skirt will just end up covering the softbox and no light will get through. As this softbox has a bowen mount it means it can be attached it to anything that uses a bowen mount so can be used with other brands which is a big bonus. The main difference with this compared to a square softbox is that the light goes in all directions and not just the direction the softbox is facing as with a square softbox. I love this as it means if I am recording a video or even taking photos I have a bit more freedom as I don’t have to keep moving adjusting the softbox if the person moves BUT if you require more control of the light direction then you are better off with a square softbox. Comes in a very nice grey bag that has a zip at the top end of the bag not the usual Neewer bag where the zip goes around the whole bag this makes it very easy to insert/remove the softbox and zip up. The bag has a bit of padding in it to give extra protection which is a nice touch. Overall I am very happy with the Neewer lantern softbox and I would definitely recommend it.

No reason to get any other 90cm lantern, this is the golden standard. I opened the Amaran one and traded ot for this because the depth on the neewer is a bit smaller which takes up less space in my studio PROS - Perfect depth and weight on the 90cm - Easy to setup? equal to the apurture - Good carrying case, easy to packup - Feels quality - Only one besides the Amaran that comes with a skirt, which makes it a no-brainer for leas than $100 - competitors charge the same but it costs $35 extra for the skirt CONS - One small advantage the Amaran one has over this is its skirt uses velcro to place and adjust it. Neewers skirt is just takes a tiny bit longer to setup and adjust compared to Amaran’s velcro covered version - Literally no other cons that I can see, and the gripes other reviews mentioned about the supports in the lantern being fiddly confuse me because I see no issues

I got the 26"/65cm one and it's the perfect size for our needs. This is such a versatile and useful light modifier that I wish I had picked one up sooner. I have a couple other Neewer soft boxes and the quality of this is on par with those. Well made, great price, fantastic results. If you don't have a modified like this yet, you should seriously consider picking this one up.
