Breakfast At Tiffany's (Anniversary Edition) [DVD] [1961]

Two genius actors pulled off an all-time classic: George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn make a fantastic on screen couple.
Much has already been written about this famous movie. I wanted to find out more about Breakfast at Tiffany's because I was mainly interested in George Peppard's career before and after the A-Team. I went back in time and found out he'd been in Breakfast at Tiffany's as the lead male role. They made a documentary about the making of this film: Blake Edwards, the director, encountered many difficulties along the way. What can I say?In the end, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a standalone wonder; everything worked out for the best. "They" were reluctant having George Peppard. He and Audrey Hepburn had perfect chemistry on screen - no matter what happened or did not happen off screen (she didn't like him).Screenwriter George Axelrod wrote a subtle witty screenplay based on Truman Capote's ideas. The movie is fizzy like a bottle of champagne. All the supporting actors are brilliant; I especially love Ms. Wildwood from Arkansas and Mr. Yunioshi (Mickey Rooney is a comic genius in his caricature portrayal of Holly's long-suffering neighbor).Audrey Hepburn speaks with an English accent and impersonates a type of Parisian woman: she is European all the way, George Peppard American all the way.He is a Knight in Shining Armor, his sensitive style of acting conveys Paul Varjak's love for Holly all the better. George Peppard's acting never was 'arrogant' nor "one-dimensional". He does a lot of little things, his screen presence is studied: you have to look at him, stare at him and notice what he does (it's easier for me, I'm a woman :)).He and Audrey are perfect together, they work in perfect harmony. It's like the movie is just one long single take, everything fits: the music, the clothes, New York, the apartment, Cat, the clever lines, the cast, like a perfectly composed piece of music. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a 1960's fairy tale in which the girl understands slowly after trial and error that the right man - a kind of Prince Charming - had been standing right before her eyes all this time. This is not a traditional comedy because the film encapsulates many emotions like the death of her brother Fred and the way Holly reacts to it. The party at Holly's apartment is a set piece of its own.I find Audrey Hepburn's acting brilliant in the drunk scene from the moment they stand at the bottom of the stairs until she tells Paul to leave. She is phenomenal. You also notice the ballet-like synchronicity between George and Audrey when he carries her over his shoulder up to her apartment. Can you imagine the actors who were first-choice in this situation? Slim and nervy Steve McQueen carrying Marilyn Monroe like this up a couple of stairs?Worth noticing: at the dime store where they stole the masks, the music is suddenly not related to 'Moon River' but I can hear the tempo of the later to come 'Pink Panther' by the same Blake Edwards.Breakfast at Tiffany's is a movie in its own league: multi-layered like a piece of classical music yet deceptively easy. It's a bittersweet romance that ends well with some darker moments. The movie became iconic thanks to Audrey Hepburn and her elegance: nevertheless for those who might have noticed my other reviews, I adore George Peppard and I think he is no less fantastic than Audrey. Where is the factory that makes men and actors like him? I am a taker. They shared 95% of the scenes. I wanted to watch George, then the more I watched the movie, the more I liked Audrey (George cannot lose first place in my heart).

One of the most iconic advertisements
I remember watching this film when it was first released and, afterwards, wondering what it was all about? Later, I looked into that famous window and began to realise that this was every girl's dream - looking onto that window, I mean. Much later, I listened to the serialisation of the story on Radio 4 Extra and it all came together: I was now able to understand the film more easily. Perhaps in all this time I experienced something more of life, with or without Manhattan and Tiffany's, and it became clear that the leading lady was too big a name for such an incredible role! Audrey Hepburn, one of the most beautiful women in the world, and also a brilliant actress, was so good in the part of Holly Golightly, that she could play this earthy creature with considerable aplomb. This is a rather dated film that is timeless in its presentation of a world most of us could never relate to. It is an absolute classic that should be in everybody's collection.

Good ,
This is like an early version of pretty woman (gere/roberts),A woman from a troubled childhood ,as dream of marrying a rich man ,so she can support her brother , a young troubled writer (kept by rich woman) comes to live in block, they become friends he tries to help her , like julia roberts pretty woman ,the strength here Audrey Hepburn character is very likeable which makes the film enjoyable! So is George peppard , got bit emotional about CAT (watch film),

Great fun
Any movie with Audrey Hepburn is always with watching, and this is no exception. I don't normally watch romcoms but this is stylish, following the madcap, unstructured lifestyle if Holly Golightly looking for a wealthy partner, and meets Fred (George Peppard) a struggling writer who falls for Holly"s unstructured lifestyle. A classic and a must watch.

Timeless classic
Audrey Hepburn shines in this classic love story set in New York. Holly Golightly is a good time girl who is looking for love. She meets Paul Varjak , a writer who is also a kept man by an older , richer woman. He too is looking for love. Both connect and fall in love. No one can so charm and style like Hepburn, even though we realise that she is actually a call girl. We also find out Holly is a fabrication, she left behind a life of unhappiness in the South. Will these two make it? Director Blake Edwards has made a film that presents New York as a glamorous place to fall in love.

Classic Hollywood.
A Hollywood classic. It is a timeless romantic comedy based on a Truman Capote storyIt stars the great Audrey Hepburn and the very underated George Peppard of A Team fame. There is so much more to himThe interactions between the two leads are superb and you will find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster as you watch.A classic must see movie from the 1960s.

Probably Hollywood's finest opening sequence.
The opening scene in this film I find is just so perfect and emotive. The actress Audrey Hepburn, the setting 5th Avenue and Henry Mancini's music "Moon River" just blend so well, pure genius by director Blake Edwards. The film itself is largely forgettable.

Delightful film
It's an old film now and shows it. George Peppard and Mickey Rooney are weak characters and poor actors. But Audrey Hepburn's stunning beauty, sweetness and charm makes it all worthwhile. And her voice ... so enchanting I could listen to her singing Moon River for ever and a day ... Glad I watched it.
