Runs well on ps5 and the controls are good with a controller
This game nails the atmosphere really well of the Aliens universe. The controls are good and work fine on console. The gameplay is intense and I would advise paying attention to all the tutorials. While combat can happen, avoiding aliens as much as possible is the aim.Cutscenes are rough and the graphics in game are much better. Zooming in and out with different lighting and environments it's very pretty game at times. So if your familiar with xcom 2 you will do well here. I also recommend switching the combat from slow mo to pause when giving orders. It's much easier and allows more patience when deciding mid combat tactics. Also use motion trackers when possible all over the map as to drag the aliens attention away or maybe even set a lure trap with mines ;). There's enough options. Not nearly as many as xcom 2 but it's a cheaper game at launch so there's that to consider.I'm half way through and love it. The games great and I don't get the lack of hype for this . Ps5 needs more tactics games and this is a very good addition in my opinion.

What a tense, challenging strategy game!
A real-time tactics game with a dark, tense atmosphere and challenging tactical gameplay that constantly keeps you on your toes. Like XCOM, but with real-time combat, greater focus on squad tactics, and large hand-crafted maps.I've played dozens of different games in the strategy/tactics genre, and this is the first game that took me 3 evenings to complete the first mission on Hard difficulty. Your marines have many tools at their disposable, but they are physically frail and prone to injury, dismemberment, abduction, and permanent death. On top of this, you have to manage their stress levels. Injuries and drawn-out conflicts can rapidly increase their stress levels, which left unchecked will develop into traumas that negatively impact their performance in various ways. The horror movie-like lighting and sound effects combine to recreate the atmosphere of tension that the Aliens movies are known for. There are four difficulty settings ranging from reasonably relaxed to deeply taxing, and their individual parameters can be tweaked as desired to create your own custom difficulty.A large update was released yesterday to address a slew of bugs and further improve the experience, and this is now definitely a 5-star experience.

OK
Hand was OK but I ended up returning this as navigating the characters wasn't great. They don't move with the controller - you have to use the controller to move a cursor, click where you want your character to be and then the character moves there.

Disappointed
I preordered this game in March and was looking forward to playing it. However, having now played the game I am very disappointed. The gameplay is slow and the story is so predictable and boring. The actual graphics are a long way behind, I am amazed this came out in 2023, it looks like something you’d see on PS2 back in 2005. Strongly recommend you do not buy this. Wait until Black Friday or when the price goes below £10 - which it should.

Really good
I'm a few hours into this game now and I'm really enjoying it. The game play is really good and it has an interesting story line. The levels create the alien universe/atmosphere really well. It doesn't have the greatest graphics but they are good enough and there is plenty of detail. I really enjoy strategy/tactical games and this is one of the best I've played for a while. Syndicate and commandos vibes in an Aliens setting. I wish they made more games like this for the ps5 maybe with a swat or military theme. Ps5 version supports mouse and keyboard too!

So disappointed
If you were a fan of the immersive and petrifying game Alien: Isolation, you will probably be as disappointed as I was with this game. Another reviewer summed up the experience of playing Dark Descent with a single word: detachment. Sheer and utter detachment.Alien Isolation threw you into a first-person nightmare with a ruthless villain, hunting you through a world of dark corridors and claustrophobic vents. It was truly terrifying. Aliens: Fireteam Elite opted for a third-person setup, which was undoubtedly fun but not quite as engaging. This new game has opted for a ridiculous top-down view with a horrendous point and click interface instead of intuitive controls. The result is a tame shooter, which feels more like you're playing The Sims or Cannon Fodder than an Alien game.I can imagine that this plays a lot better on a PC, where the use of a mouse might compliment the control system, but not on the PS5. I watched a couple of videos of this game before purchasing it, so I knew what I was in for to some extent. When I actually started playing it, I couldn't believe how removed I felt from the action. My first encouter with an Alien was a telltale sign of what was yet to come. Basically, there was an alien wandering around in the room somewhere and I couldn't see it. I tried walking towards the doors and it killed me. The game swicthed from a top-down view of a little matchstick-man running through a room to a first-person black and white view from the alien as it caught me. Dead! No blood, no guts, no hissing. Just dead, try again. I tried about 3 times before I escaped that room. Not once did I feel even the slightest ounce of fear or adrenaline. One of the best things about Alien: Isolation was the utter dread you felt at being caught, because it was genuinely scary. This game isn't even creepy. The plot is beyond formulaic. The main character is a woman again, which is so cliched now it almost demeans the brilliance of Sigourney Weaver's original heroine. About twenty minutes into the game, your character shoots down three whole starships full of marines to stop one shuttle with an alien onboard that could have easily been blasted with a missle or caught in a tractor beam. That was the final straw for me.Game over man. Game over! I think I lasted 30 minutes. Good job I purchased the physical copy so I can trade it in for something else. I think I might buy Aliens: Fireteam Elite again. I actually really enjoyed that one!
