You can feel the blade, so it's not mild. However it does shave nice and the weight is good. I'm actually going to recommend this razor over a beginner friendly razor because truth is....you'll learn faster with this razor. You will feel the blade, which will force you to go lighter and let the device do all the work

The Pearl Hammer vs Pearl Flexi. Both are nice razors for the price, and I will not discuss the adjustability of the Flexi. My daily razor is the Flexi open comb. I wanted a 3 piece razor to add to my collection and the Hammer was top on my list. I like the fact I can change from closed to open comb very easily. The Hammer is larger, not heavier than the Flexi. The handle on the Hammer is much longer with nice barber pole style knurling with a satin finish. Blades fit snug and straight with zero blade overhang. I shaved with both options of closed & open comb. My experience was more blade feel/ aggressive with the open comb and a very smooth almost zero blade feel with the closed comb. Two totally different razors, which is very cool IMHO. The SilverMax blades that are provided are trash, I used Wilkerson Sword for this test. I had 2 nicks from the shave, very smooth.Overall, this is a quality razor. The long handle makes it more for women, so I will save this for my daughter when she needs a razor in the near future.

I was surprised by this razor. It is a heavy, finely machined chunk of brass, with a thick coating of (whatever...nickel, something non-rusting), It feels very good in the hand, and the weight makes shaving effortless. It is, however, aggressive - especially with the open-tooth comb. It took some time to learn to be careful - and I still use the bar instead of the comb, because it is gentler. I like it enough that I use it regularly, but only when I need an exceptionally close shave - usually for special occasions or when I might go for hours before my next shave. It is sturdy enough that I expect that a grandchild might end up owning it long after I am gone...I guess an heirloom? Excellent buy, especially if you like sturdy, aggressive razors.

I like that the razor is all solid brass, the fit and finish was perfect except a few of the teeth on the open comb plate had some excess flashing that I easily took care of with a needle file. The brass shows a little where I filed, It's not to noticeable and doesn't bother me. I got a good shave with the razor, but it's a little on the heavy side for me.

Pearl Shaving is laying down the hammer with this amazing double Edge razor. Pearl had designed many winners over the years but this one I have to say is a great choice for experienced and new wet shavers. It comes with two plates, an open comb and closed comb. It’s like having two razors in one.I find the open comb perfect if your looking to shave off multiple weeks of growth with ease. This razor is mild to aggressive hence the name “The Hammer”. You can’t go wrong with this razor from Pearl Shaving and it’s 100% solid brass so it’s has a nice heft to it, which I like. It’s Also priced very well for what you get. Highly recommended

This will be a nicely aggressive shaver. The fir/finish is outstanding and the handle being chunky works nicely (if it were thinner it just wouldn’t fit the overall look). Take your time, I did a two pass at my normal speed and had a few weepers but a close shave. I’ll change up overall angle and speed next time around. It’s not just pretty too look at.

Pearl shaving hit it out of the park with this hefty DE Razor. The “Hammer” this is a beast of a razor, something Thor would use if he shaved.Very beautifully designed razor at a fantastic price point. Comes with an Open Comb & Closed Comb plates. I have all of the Pearl razors and this one is definitely the most efficient. But its oh sooo smooth. I get a super close comfortable smooth efficient shave every time I use it. Highly highly recommend this razor. Heck at this price by two and give one as a gift.

The Razor’s quality is average & it’s open comb is highly aggressive & it’s close comb is also aggressive so I don’t advise for people who have sensitive skin!

Extremely dissatisfied with the shave quality of this razor. I have been wet shaving for the last 5 years now and have shaved with safety razors of different reputed safety razor manufacturers from India and abroad. The razor gave me cuts and weepers all over the face and is a dangerous shaver. The weight of the razor is little too much for a safety razor and finishing also has flaws at the top cap and on the safety bar plate and is nowhere near to international standards or the price at which it is available.Stay away from this razor, not worth a fraction of the price at which it is available.
