The storyline is pretty simple, 4 survivors battling their way through a city against a horde of starving zombies from safe room to safe room. The 4 survivors can be played by 4 of you locally on the same console or the 'vacant' players can be AI. As another reviewer has mentioned, the AI is sometimes a little trigger happy & can startle 'witches', this is especially annoying when trying to make it through a chapter without startling one for an achievement! There are also other types of special zombies - Smokers who drag you away from your team mates with their tongues, Boomers who vomit on you attracting hordes of zombies & Hunters who pounce on you, pinning you to the ground until you are saved by a team mate or killed. If you're looking for a fast paced action multiplayer game and you like zombie anything: BUY THIS GAME. This is one of those games that if i was put on an island and had to choose only 10 games to take with me to play the rest of my life, Left 4 Dead would be one of those games. I've rarely played a game as fun as this, especially when you play with friends. JUST REMEMBER: cooperation is part of the game, so if you don't like to rely on the help of teammates form time to time then this is the wrong game to buy. There are certain zombies that will "trap" you (like the Smoker's tongue) and you HAVE to be rescued by a teammate, and that also applies to you helping "untrap" the computer controlled AI as well. There are only two things wrong with this game (3 if you figure in Left 4 Dead 2: which is only superior because of its added melee weapons option): 1. at times the computer AI can be annoying, but there's so much constant action and they aren't too stupid so you don't really notice that much, and when you do you're having so much fun you almost don't care, and 2. even though the game has 4 levels and they are long, after you beat the game you're left with wanting more. But that's also a great sign of a great game. This game has EXCELLENT replayability, i just wish there were a lot of DLCs to download to add more levels. After years of playing this game it's finally getting kind of repetitive, lol. You might want to buy the seconds Left 4 Dead as it's an improved version with Melee weapons added, though there are also new zombies added which, in my opinion, are more annoying than anything else, such as the Jockey Zombie. And the Jockey Zombie is, again, a zombie once attacked by it you must have help from someone else on your team. Anyways, this is a definite recommended buy as it's a definite top game of mine I've ever played, and one of the funnest multiplayer games I've ever played on any system. **Q: I already know that this is the game- of-the-year edition, however, is it also platinum hits? The single player campaign is short in easy mode but very challenging in expert. But the real joy of this game is playing with others on Xbox live. Not only are there lots of options (sadly you have to buy them!) but I have found the online crowd for this game more friendly than most.
