Very good filters
I use these filters with my cigarettes. They work really well in filtering the tar out. You can see it in the clear filters. So I know they work. I use one for ten to fifteen cigarettes. Some more or less. I have been ordering for several years and the quality has been excellent, until recently. I order 300 at a time. This time some of the filters I couldn’t blow air through freely. It seemed to be stopped up. Most filters worked well, but maybe thirty out of 300 were lugged up.

*****Really Works*****
This is actually the first product I have ever written a review for in my entire life. I have been a heavy smoker for over 10 years and unfortunately with the current stress level in my life I do not see myself quitting anytime soon. I ordered this product because it did have excellent reviews initially and to my surprise it worked great.I wanted to write this review though because there were some questions I had that I did not see answers to in previous review. This is my first experience using any type of tar removal filters so I cannot speak to how good these are in comparison. In my opinion though they are excellent! 1. - After 2 days of usage I noticed a positive difference in my health. I no longer had that weight/pressure feeling on my chest, a few more days later my smokers cough went away 2. - I did start coughing up some stuff after the two days, which in my opinion was good, maybe there was some healing going on. 3. - You will have to pull on the cigarette a little harder to get the same feeling and the hit may not be as hard...still 100 times better than any electronic cigarette for those that have tried that route. 4. - Im still on my first bag and in some other review there were lots of reports of defective filters. Maybe I was lucky but I think i have only had about 10. In my opinion though for the already pretty cheap price and considering these are probably mass manufactured I did not mind 5. - Each filter depending on your preference can last probably up to 5 cigarettes, I smoke 100's so I usually throw one away after 3 cigs. All in all great product, I will never smoke another cigarette without one of these filters.

Easy Way to Help Reduce Tar
This is a great product, as it really does reduce some of the tar while you smoke. My only complaint is that a small number of the filter tips leak tar at the seam where the two plastic parts of the filter are joined together. This indicates the manufacturing and quality control processes could use improvement. However, I have literally bought hundreds of these filters, and I do like them. If it weren't for the occasional leaky filter, I would have given this product five stars. UPDATE (Sept 2014): Poor quality is still an issue, but this product really does help to reduce the tar, so it's worth buying this product in spite of the problems, BUT only if you're willing to take a few extra steps. UPDATE (Sept 2016) Poor quality is getting worse as about half of the filters leak at the seam, but my update is similar to the one in September 2014. Most of the filters leak where the two plastic parts of the filter are joined together -- the problem is easy to fix. Before I use a new filter, I wrap a small strip of adhesive tape around the seam where the two parts of the filter are joined together. I further use my fingernail while rolling the taped filter to get the tape to adhere into the seam and into the ridges, thereby completely sealing the area where the plastic pieces are joined. Also, the thickness (diameter) of cigarettes vary ever-so-slightly from pack to pack, so sometimes the cigarette will fit snugly in the filter, but most times the cigarette is so loose in the filter that the cigarette either falls out or lets air pass into the filter while inhaling. Again, this is easily solved. I use slip of paper (usually the thickness of an index card) cut into a 1/4 inch by 1 inch strip. I insert the the slip of paper into the filter along with the cigarette, using the paper as a shim/wedge to help the cigarette fit snugly into the filter. One last tip. When you are not using the filter, tuck the narrow end of the filter (the mouthpiece section) in between the plastic wrap of your pack of cigarettes and the paper/cardboard part of the pack. This will keep your filter handy with your pack of cigarettes. ALSO, this procedure will keep the tar from leaking onto your clothes or other things. As the filter fills with tar, it can sometimes leak from either end of the filter, but this is usually caused by excessive heat (i.e. leaving your cigarettes / filter in a hot car) or excess vibration (i.e. running with your cigarettes / filter in pocket).

Must’ve gotten a bad batch … Total Disappointment … I’m Miserable
I’ve been using these filters for years, as I don’t like nicotine and tar stains on my fingers, and I like the fact that some of the “bad stuff” is filtered out, when I smoke. In the past, I have been quite pleased with these filters. They have always “done their job;” and they last through a good number of smoked cigarettes. HOWEVER, _this_ batch — let’s just say that I pretty-much cuss them out frequently and regularly! Way too many of them are actually BROKEN in the bag. They LOOK right, at a quick glance; but then you smoke with one, and you quickly realize that the actual filter part — the white thing inside the light-brown, transparent “receptacle”/“encasement” … the part that actually DOES the FILTERING (!) — is completely DETACHED and bouncing around in there … and you get a nice, big nasty dose of the taste of gooey, toxic tar and nicotine in your mouth — YUCK!!! Besides that, there were a few that WERE completely broken — you have the white “ring” that is supposed to reside at the top of the filter unit, with the hole that the smoke from the cigarette goes through, which sits under and houses the cigarette butt; you have the white filter part that resides inside the “encasement,” that IS the actual filter; and then you have the light-brown, translucent “encasement” that is supposed to hold whatever goo makes it out of the white filter and keep it from getting all over YOU and into your MOUTH — all three parts SEPARATED and floating individually around in the bag; and a couple of the parts, I can’t even FIND! I’m thinking they never made it into the bag. On top of all that, some of the holes at the tops of the filters [right under where the cigarette butt sits], I have found, are either too large [so all that “yuck” goes straight through the filter, into the “receptacle,” and then into your mouth (!), like it’s not supposed to do, especially on your first cigarette on the new filter] or too small — even [on some] to the point of having NO hole at ALL [so NO smoke even GETS to you, and you suck on that thing so hard that your cheeks on your face HURT … until you stop and look at it, and realize that there is NO HOLE where it’s supposed to be; so you can’t even smoke your cigarette! I used to only have to change my filter twice a day, and many times even less often. Now, with these, I’m fairly “lucky” to use one filter for 2, maybe 3, cigarettes! They often leak that nasty stuff onto your fingers, or there is a nasty residue of it on the mouthpiece of the thing, and boy is THAT bitterly gross! A bag of these used to last me quite a long while. I don’t expect that to be the case this time, with this bag. I don’t dare return them, though, as they are VERY difficult to find around where I live. I can’t stand to smoke without them anymore, since I’ve been smoking with these for so many years. So I use each one with the pre-hope that “maybe THIS one will work.” I must say, though, that it is most frustrating; and, quite frankly, I can’t ignore the fact that I’m being ripped off with every filter that is defunct! The package was packed with not much care. That could certainly have played into the equation. These filters are NOT inexpensive anymore, either! When you consider the cost of cigarettes these days, and THEN you see the price of these filters, yep — pretty darn expensive! I expect way more care and quality than what was actually put into this! I’m thinking that I will try to find a new seller for these, when it’s time to make my next order. Who has room for that much waste, especially THESE days? Not me. Yep … quite disappointing, indeed. I really hope that things are just “temporarily off” for this seller … but if so, I don’t plan on necessarily finding out how long their “temporary” IS. If not, then I suppose I can just deduct that this is how they do business ALL the time, which is too bad. I prefer to try to give “the benefit of the doubt” to people; but, right now, in cases like this, I just cannot _afford_ that! I’m sorry; but for this product, I have to recommend finding another seller. I really am miserable with these filters; and I’ve never experienced this type of situation — especially this many, and this much of a MESS. My apologies to the seller for having to leave this kind of review. Perhaps it will inspire the company to be a little more careful and a little more diligent, from here on out. I hope so. *Sigh*

Too many defective but ones that work do a good job.
There are many with zero air flow...holes were not drilled at all(?) The ones with air flow vary greatly. Some have very little air flow while others seem to be made perfectly. No consistency. I've had to throw away about 30 out of 100 so far and expect there will be a significant number more of duds. The ones that do work definitely trap a lot of tar. So that part is good but it's unacceptable that so many are defective/completely useless.

Huge savings and quality.
I hoped to find a cheaper option to the $7 six pack of these filters sold at my local pharmacy. I read many of the Amazon reviews stating ¼ to ½ of their filters didn't work, I thought I would give it a try, and I'm glad I did. In my first order all but 1 filter worked. I was so thrilled with my purchase that I ordered the larger bag of 300. So far I haven't had any issues with these either. I'm thrilled to have found these and as long as the company keeps the prices affordable, I'll continue to purchase. UPDATE: 9/24 I just finished the 300 filter bag. Only 3 out of 300 didn't work. I'm ordering my 3rd bag today. NO- I do not work for tar guard. I'm just a consumer looking for products that deliver what they claim to be. I like using a tar filter that still allows me to enjoy smoking. I get that with the amber tar guard.

SMOKER NECESSITY
Exactly as described. These are a must for every smoker. Truly removes a lot of the tar from the ciggarette. Keeps fingers smelling and looking clean. No more yellowish resin on your fingers. Best part is though if you are going to smoke, this helps reduce the tar intake into your lungs. I did have a couple that didnt seem to work as good but none that were so bad that they were unusable though but for the price that would have been ok. This brand didnt change the flavor at all and I didnt have to struggle to get a good draw so I would say these are a good bet all around.
