Q: What is the maximum extension cord length one could use?

As long as you want. I have a outdoor 200 ft. cord I buried in the ground and it runs down to my pump near the pond. I do recommend that you enclose the pump is in enclosed area with a lot of ventilation and even though it says it can run 24 hrs. a day be careful, I have mine on a timer because I have had to replace my pump once because of heat issues.

Q: is the pump waterproof?

The pump itself is not waterproof, it is recommended to add a 20*15*15 inch size, waterproof and ventilated box when you are outdoors.

Q: What is the sound rating (db) of this compressor?

50-60 db next to the pump. If you buy a housing if might decrease the sound. And we didn't test it away from the unit.
