Can i use this cattle on gas stove?

Yes, it is meant to be used on a gas stove.

Is the coil base portion of the kettle difficult to clean? Does it get 'gunked up' with stove spatters? IF so, how do you clean inside the coil base?

I've never had the coils get gunked up. Of course the kettle is only boiling water so nothing runs out the top and down the sides toward the coils. Also because of the flames while heating the kettle, any other possible small splatter would just burn off. Hope this helps -- it's a great kettle.

Are these new kettles inferior, and more flimsy, than the old ones? I read that they were bought out by someone else in 2010.

We bought this kettle about a year ago. Love it, looks great. The only complaint I have is that the "whistle" is very quiet.
