The Feynman Lectures on Physics, Vol. I: The New Millennium Edition: Mainly Mechanics, Radiation, and Heat

Still the best - but where's volume II?
If you want an introductory university-level physics course, without actually going to the expense of going to college, this is still the best. And as a bonus you won't have to deal with any students! As at time of writing only volumes I & III were available. What's that all about? Is it in the other universe where the cat is dead?

The lectures are freely available online:[...]I brought the book however because I find it easier to read from a book than a website. The book itself was surprisingly big. It isn't a small reading book but more akin to a fair sized textbook, but its light so it is simple to carry. The lectures are an entertaining and give valuable insight into areas of physics that aren't so easily accessible.I am not a physicist so it's been great having a book which just starts from scratch and teaches people the basics to get by.For any doubters, just look at the website before making your decision about the content, otherwise, go ahead and buy it.

Great when used appropriately
In my experience nothing quite gives you the intuitive understanding of concepts in physics like Feynman's lectures do. He really does have an inimitable lucidity in his teaching style. However it's important to note that these are definitely not suitable as a main text for a first time student, partly due to the lack of worked and set exercises. Instead, these are best used to flesh out understanding of concepts after visiting them in other places. While many textbooks can sometimes gloss over the approach to important results, with Feynman you know that you'll understand both the result and the way to get there.

Provides intuition and insight
Outdated and without any exercises. Yet, it's more than just the name that makes Feynman a vital part of everyone's library. The intuition one gains by reading these lectures is irreplaceable. I believe that reading them should be an integrated part of everyone's Physics education, although by no means should it be the primary source of information. It reads like a book, it's well written, and quite unorthodox in it's approach. But it provides insight by the handful. You know... it's Feynman!

This book is great indeed. Feynman explains physics in detail
This book is great indeed. Feynman explains physics in detail. For everyone who wants to learn physics from bottom to highest level, I just want to say that this is the book for you. In my opinion there are only five giants on physics in the latest years: Newton, Einstein, Bohr, Hawking and Feynman. There are surely other giants, but these five giants are the greatest, because their extremly NEW CREATIVE WORKS. Please read Feynman.

What can be said?
The Feynman lectures are THE lectures on Physics. I have used these as extra study material for my own degree, using it to fill in the details that my course does not have. I would certainly recommend to anyone!

Physics with Charisma
Feynman is a wonderful mouthpiece for such a deep and beautiful subject. This has a place in any half decent library.

Testo Must Have
