Q: Are these really dipped galvanized or are they simply painted with cold galvanizing spray? They don't look like they are truly galvanized.

It is dipped galvanized and a great anchor! I have not had it break free after setting in. This anchor is the best setting anchor in bad conditions that I have ever used! 35 mph wind with gust to 43mph and held my boat in place!

Q: how does anchor release from rocks?

Not made for the rocks......Muddy/grassy bottoms only.

Q: So I bought this anchor for my 22 foot pontoon. It never sets for me; do I need a chain?

how big is the anchor ? how much rode ? 5 x depth plus height of boat . Mine always sets , and holds . I would recomend 16 ' of chain.
