never gets boring
For some series of this genre, it’s really easy to feel like the books get stale. After a while, you just aren’t as interested in reading the next one. This series, by Seth Ring, I have enjoyed entirely the opposite experience. I am 11 books in so far and still loving every one of them.

Reminiscent of the battlemage series but stands apart
This book reminded me of the Battlemage series by the same author in that the MC is powerful from the start and comes equipped with a wealth of knowledge and confidence in himself so there isn't that usual growth period that is present in almost all fantasy. There is training but it's geared towards growing more powerful rather than starting from ground zero like a fawn learning to walk. That said, it definitely carves its own path and draws you in immediately. I got into LitRPG recently and this features the typical ascendant character plot although in this case he got to keep his old body. He was "nerfed" compared to his power level on his old world but, keeping all his knowledge of things like rune crafting, instantly gives him a huge leg up.The action is faced paced, dialogue great, loaded with interesting characters, and feels like a lot happens for its length in pages. There's also a twist at the end I don't want to spoil where the MC encounters his "true" enemy. Definitely going to continue reading the series as I'd like to follow the journey the MC is on, see if he can reunite with his tight crew from his old world, and find out what happens with the also powerful antagonist that's only mentioned at the very start (Elmvina Tardoff).Would recommend to anyone who enjoys great LitRPG.

Seth Ring keeps it interesting.
I would love to see what Seth Ring can do outside of the litrpg genre, but I do enjoy his writing nonetheless. Voice actor Eric jason Martin continues to bring Seth Rings characters from Nova Terra to life and the story remains a good read. it is appropriate for young adults and above with no foul language, And keeps to a mostly 3rd person limited point of view with a few pov shifts. Forge Master does rely a bit on the previous series in a way that I think new readers need to have read Nova Terra series or be perpared to feel left behind when the protagonist starts to apply previous abilites in way that will feel out of the blue if coming at the character for the first time. Nova Terra is a Kindle Unlimited series and well worth the read. I added the series to book my kindle and audible libraries and looked forward to book and a new series with Thorn. I wasn’t disappointed but I think that the abrupt cliffhanger ending does suck because it feels more like stopping half way through a chapter with the next book due out in a few months.Overall this first book was interesting because of how much our protagonist has had to adapt. Flipping the script in a way were he has to start from behind others and rely on his own determination to get through. I do think the story suffered a bit from a lack of a clear and interesting main antagonist. When the big reveal is given it feels a bit off simply because there was zero foreshadowing of it. When we get the explanation it does feel like there were oppertunies to plant some seeds and character tells. As it was it felt random and the antagonist flip in character makes it all the weirder.

The wait for this continuing series was totally worth it!
I have devoured everything the exceedingly talented Seth Ring has written and released. All of his works are extremely intelligent and entertaining, and the evolution of the entire cast of characters in this detailed, intricate world had me extremely impatient to learn what comes after Ascendance. After what seemed like a very long wait, I finally clicked on Kindle and there it was, the first installment of the series promised to continue Thorn and his lovable group's story. Without hesitation, let me say that even though book 1 barely scratches the surface, I already know the story will be worth every moment of waiting. Though, to be clear, the waiting is excruciating.Despite the fact that I forego sizable discounts by doing so, I pre-ordered both the Kindle version and the Audible version (I always get both with my favorites so I can listen to the extremely talented narrator while reading along). It should say everything that even before I was done with Forge Master, I had already secured my copy of the Kindle and Audible editions of book 2, Reforged. The wait until June cannot pass quickly enough. Thank you for adding light to the world, Mr. Ring! Please keep up the good work. To my fellow readers: If the author has touched you as well, please consider leaving reviews and pre-ordering his next works, so we may ease his path to finished works as much as our support can!

The best I've seen in the genre
First, it should be obvious, but this is LitRPG. It's right on the cover. Don't trash the book because you didn't know what you were buying. Second, this is the second series with this character. I read these books first and then went back to read the Nova Terra series so it can be done, but it will make a lot more sense if you start with Nova Terra. It's good LitRPG. I like the way Seth blends in a little sciFi to advance the story and create a bit of mystery. He does a great job of taking characters through gradual transformation, and not just main characters. That gives the stories a much more dynamic feel, like the world is actually changing instead of just waiting for the MC to act. He's also very consistent, which is remarkable with so much going on.One plot criticism I have is that any romance is strung out too long. I understand slow burn but this is too far. I know the rationalization for that given in the story but it really feels more like a dodge to avoid having to deal with the romance. And I don't buy the argument that romance isn't what the story is about. It's in there so the author, even while dodging the subject, acknowledges it's an important part of the story.

Brilliant
I read the Battle Mate series, so when Seth brought out a new book I thought okay, I'll try it out. And guess what it's brilliant. Another excellent story and a really good main character. Story moves along at a cracking pace, roll on the next book.

Engaging Read
After an epic finish , i wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book. The author doesn't disappoint, the ability to weave a story with high quality writing makes this an engaging read.

Excellent
I held off reading this for as long as I could because I wanted the next book to be released before I started as I knew that I’d want to dive straight into book 2 after I finished this one. Oh well, it’s like trying not to have a doughnut from the box you just bought in the car on the way home. Impossible to resist!

Fun read in a somewhat weird genre.
I enjoyed reading the book. It was light, funnny and well paced. I find litRPG novels to be a little weird. I tend to ignore the LitRPG stuff as it doesn't really affect the story or my enjoyment of it. Some people love the LitRPG stuff, but for me it is just noise. I've read at least half a dozen litRPG novels and have enjoyed most of them. If you have never read a LitRPG novel, give this one a read, you'll probably enjoy it.
