Well engineered product
I looked at several different brands for a pergola and finally decided on this one. It turned out to be a great decision.Reviews of one of the other brands had several comments about the pergola arriving on one 800 pound pallet and how hard it was to get it off the truck and moved to reasonable spot. The Mellcom product came via Fedex in eight separate boxes all weighing under 100 pounds. The Fedex driver easily put each box in back of my house out of sight. Having different boxes each with its own shipping number means they may arrive on different days, but the company had sent me a message to expect that so it was no problem. The product is well packaged and arrived without any damage even though the boxes had obviously been banged around a bit. Inside the boxes, each part is individually wrapped in protective packaging and color coded with tape to indicate which parts go together. As you unpack the boxes, just stack tape colors together and you will have the parts needed for a page in the assemble instructions. When you unwrap the parts each one has a sticker with a letter on it to match the instruction manual directions. The instruction manual is all pictures, but it is pretty easy to follow and most of the parts are engineered to only go together one way so it is really hard to assemble it incorrectly. The only thing that was confusing was the way the curtains and screens go on. There are six separate panels for each one and a single panel installs on both sides of a post with straps in the middle of the panel to attach to the post. The middle panels are easy, they have five eyelets on each side, but the four corner panels have five eyelets on one side and six on the other. Contrary to what would seem logical, the six eyelets go on the short side of the pergola and the five eyelets go on the long side of the pergola. Be sure you put all of the hooks for the curtains in the frame of the pergola during assembly - you will have a couple of extra but that is good in case you ever break one.Reviews on one of the other brands I looked at had comments about how long it took to assemble the louvers. On this model, the louvers are completely assembled and snap into place. It took less than 30 minutes to put all the louvers on the frame. Total assemble time was about six to seven hours, but I did it all by myself over the course of three days. It was July and pretty hot and I wasn't in any hurry. If you had two people working on it you could probably do it in four hours. The company sent me an email right after I ordered the product with a customer service contact if I had any questions, but I never had to use it. Like I said, the only thing that I had a problem with was hanging the curtains.Overall quality for the product is excellent. The materials used are strong, it doesn't seem cheap at all, and the engineering was great. Everything fits together well. I would say it is 95% waterproof. I get some rain splash along the center beam, but the area under the louvers stays completely dry.

Great value - very pleased
If you are looking for a $20K pergola, this isn’t it. If you are looking for an economical cover solution at a good value, you’ve found it. I purchased the 12X24 version which fit my requirement perfectly. It arrived in a total of 7 boxes in two different deliveries within days of each other. It arrived about 10 day earlier than the projected delivery date. I experienced no damage and no missing parts. Assembly isn’t hard, but does involve a lot of screwing, so be sure to have your cordless drill charged and ready to go. I totally disagree with some of the time estimates that are listed in other reviews. I assembled the entire thing, by myself in about six hours. Nothing difficult, just time consuming. If you have a second person with a screwdriver, you could easily shave an hour plus off that time. The instructions are IKEA like picture instructions, but easy to follow. The few times they were a little confusing, it only takes a little bit of common sense to figure out what you are supposed to do. It would be extremely helpful to have a second person to help put the rafters in place. Putting on the louvers is easy, but probably the most time-consuming single step. If have two people with ladders doing this step, it will speed the process tremendously. Even someone just unwrapping the louvers and handing them to the installer, would cut install time a lot. The color, although listed as gray, is a brownish gray and looks fine with brown decking. All and all, very pleased with the purchase and would recommend.

Great value for money. Highly recommend.
There are some really good reviews on here already and that’s was reassured me in this making purchase. We bought the 12x20 pergola in grey and am very pleased with it. The paint is really good and didnt scratch easily during assembly. Fit and finish was very good overall. Instructions are very detailed and cover all the steps in detail. Overall the value is really good. This is a big project and it will take some time. I did assembly of the parts themselves in a 2-3 hrs by myself and then the final setup and assembly of all the big pieces and actually putting it together took about 4hrs with two people. Get an impact to shave hours off using the Allen key providedPackaging was very good, 6 boxes everything wrapped in foam or plastic. Came in 3-4 FedEx deliveries in a week or so. Only complaint was that the hardware pack had been mashed in shipping and I had to go to Home Depot to get more bolts as some were missing. Also I upgraded the anchors to bigger ones. The ones provided would work too.

Just Buy It!! Solid Quality
After reading several positive reviews I was reassured and convinced. This pergola is among the more affordable options, but the quality far exceeds that of significantly pricier options. The build quality is excellent, sturdy, with high quality materials. With 2 people & a power drill it took a total of 3.5 hours to build. The attention to detail, from the packaging to the trim pieces, nothing was overlooked. If you are on the fence - just buy it!! You will not regret this one. Delivery was shockingly fast (3 days) and arrived well packaged and in manageably sized boxes. The perfect addition to the backyard. The included bug curtains & traditional curtains are a great bonus too! The individual parts are light weight enough to ease the assembly process, but be sure to have at least 2 people working together to assemble.
