Beginner's Guide to Successful Container Gardening: Grow Your Own Food in Small Places! 25+ Proven DIY Methods for Composting, Companion Planting, ... McKay's Easy and Effective Gardening Series) Review: Wonderfully Written - It was such a pleasure to read through this book. So much detailed information. Looking forward to getting started with a small raised garden and I feel confident that it will be a success. Have never had a compost but I am currently collecting items to get started. This book has been a huge help and a wonderful learning experience We don’t have a fish tank but I’ve learned that the nitrogen in the water is good for plants. Guess we’ll be getting another family pet as well LOL. Really enjoyed learning about my new hobby and appreciate your knowledge and generosity so very much. Thank you, Jackie Review: A fresh look at harvesting food from smaller spaces - Reading this book on container gardening is making me excited to get out and try some of the things I have learned. I have a small raised bed garden and for the past couple of years I have been disappointed with my harvest. This book has inspired me to expand to other areas of my yard and grow vegetables and herbs, utilizing the smaller spaces I have with available sun. The book covers so many topics including soil amendment (which I expect will improve my existing raised bed for a better harvest this year), how to maximize space, principles of permaculture, composting, watering and fertilizing. In addition there is lots of information on seed selection, starting plants from seed, harvesting, seed saving, preserving your harvest, and so much more. Packed with lots of ideas and helpful hints, this will be my go to manual as I come into my favorite time of year of planning, planting and getting back to nature in my garden. Thank you Sophie for sharing your gardening wisdom.

A complete guide to container gardening. Must have!
I've read numerous books and online guides on the topic of gardening. This book is a very thorough guide for anyone just starting out or even more experienced, like myself, to have in their gardening library. I needed a hard copy of this one for my book collection. This book has everything one needs to know about gardening in containers- especially in small spaces and beyond. Want to grow tomatoes on your backyard deck? Get this book. Interested in growing your own berries in your backyard? Get this book. It has thorough information on soils, amendments, fertilizers and insect control with clean, organic methods as well as troubleshooting common problems and solutions. A favorite to consult whenever I need information at my finger tips. Excellent book. 👍

So helpful!
I love that the information offered in this guide is so clear, simple, and concise. I have several gardening books, but I think this will be the one I refer to most this growing season because I can very quickly look up the answers I need without having to sift through page after page. I'm going to read her permaculture book next!

Thorough and Complete
Although I have been gardening for over 50 years, I downloaded this book because I wanted some tips on growing some specific plants in containers. I found this book to be a thorough and complete reference guide for container gardening. I especially liked the tips on companion planting, as I am transitioning my gardens into edible landscaping. I plan to order a copy as a quick reference manual to keep on my gardening bench.

Not realistic for the US
I purchased this book because I am a first time container Gardner. I got a condo on the second floor, the book is good for helping you find the right size for various vegetables but it’s not good for telling you when to start growing certain vegetables because I’m in California, US so our weather is quite different than those in other countries. I kept a book because I guess it’s kind of a good reference, but wasn’t really much of a help with the in-depth of container gardening.
