Game Changer: A Grumpy Sunshine Sports Romance (King of the Court Book 1)

Intriguing and entertaining
This year I'm on the hunt of new to me authors. The blurb intrigued me, while seeing this book being promoted of my Facebook book friends. And I haven't read a basketball romance in a while. And tbh with you, I wished I had payed closer attention. Because until the end of Game Changer, I wasn't aware of the fact that Nova and Clay's story goes over three books, with the other two being published end of June and end of August 2023. And I HATE waiting. :-DGame Changer doesn't end with a traditional cliffy but yet there is still one that left me hanging and sad that I can't continue right away. If I'd known that before starting this book, I would have waited until all three books are published. :-)Now, let's talk about the book. Even though the blurb is intriguing, I went in without any expectations. And it took me only very few pages to be sucked into the story. I really like Nova and Clay as induvial and also when they are together. I love how Clay is there for Nova even though is a grump through and through. But he just can't help himself with Nova. I enjoyed their interactions and banter and I think Game Changer is a great start for what's about to come.Oh, and the side characters! I wish I'd seen more of them. And I hope I get to read Miles and Brook's story as well as Jay and Chloe's! Please tell me they'll get their own books!?This book was definitely one that was hard to put down. I read long past midnight because I kept saying myself "just one more chapter. you'll stop after the next one", but I couldn't. And then I got hit by this cliffy. *sigh*The thing that keeps me from giving more than 4 stars is that I think the complex relationship between Nova and her sister Mari could have been explored a little deeper. And what happened to their parents. I get the feeling that these are important points that shaped Nova into the person she is. I also don't get in the end why Harlan (Mari's husband) did what he did and why he thought it was his business to do so. I can't quite get a grip on him and it feels weird. Hopefully this will kind of clear up in the next books.

Fabulous start to Nova and Clay's journey
Nova and Clay meet by chance on a plane. He’s headed back to his job as a basketball player with a team he doesn’t want to play for and she’s going to visit her sister and help with final wedding plans. But for Nova, she is extremely afraid of flying which has her engaging her seatmate to help occupy her mind. Clay wants to be left alone but something about this vibrant woman with the pink hair pulls him in and he finds himself helping her through the flight and he expects to never see her again. So when she shows up at the stadium, he is surprised but also intrigued since he’s hasn’t stopping thinking about her. Nova had no idea Clay played basketball and was even more surprised to learn her future brother-in-law is his general manager. She can’t stop thinking about how he helped her so she orchestrates getting to see him. These two begin an unlikely friendship as they find a person they can be real and open with. Clay’s life is all about basketball and he’s avoided relationships after getting his heart broken in college. Nova’s life is in limbo after her fiancé left her and work put her on leave. Where is she headed after her sister’s wedding? I enjoyed this couple and love all the layers to their personalities that they keep discovering. As resistant as Clay is, he can’t stay away and finds a support in Nova he didn’t know he needed while she does the same. Just when I think we are headed down a wonderful path, life throws a curve ball and pushes them apart. Now, I wait for part 2 to see where their journey’s lead them and if they can find a path that brings them back together. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

First book in a new basketball romance series!
- Professional Basketball Player- Forbidden- Age Gap (5 years)- Chance Encounter- GrumpyXSunshineNova is recently single and potentially jobless pending a fraud investigation thanks to her ex fiancé. She is now on her way to spend a month in Denver helping her sister get ready for her wedding. Problem is, Nova is terrified of flying, so what better way to distract yourself than to try and make small talk with the grumpy, tattooed, mysterious giant who’s sitting next to her?Clayton “Clay” Wade is a god on the basketball court, but this season just doesn’t feel right to him. He is coming back after a season ending ACL injury to a new GM that he has negative history with, some new players he just doesn’t have faith in and the baggage that comes with recovering from an injury.I absolutely loved reading about Clay and Nova. They had such a great connection and their banter had me both swooning and laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I also enjoyed the side character’s interactions, and I am really hoping some of them get their own spin off book, *cough* Brooke and Miles *cough*.This is the first book in the Kings of the Court series and does end on a cliffhanger. There isn’t a ton of spice in book one, but I am guessing the heat will rise with each book. I already cannot wait for the release of the next one, Shot Taker, which is scheduled to release in June 2023!

Such a great read
I love Piper Lawson’s book and this one is no different. I read it one sitting. It’s a great grumpy/sunshine romance.Nova meets a mystery guy on a flight to her sister’s wedding. She’s dealing with a lot at the time and despite this the stranger helps her get through the flight. I loved how they met on the plane and how he was there for her.Little does Nova know that the “stranger” on the plane is the star NBA player for her soon to be BIL’s team. The chemistry between Nova and Clay is off the charts. I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’ll leave it at that. This quote though:“Wear mine,” I murmur. “Next time you wear a jersey to a game, you wear mine.”There are so many great quotes:“You see people in a way that’s better than how they see themselves. I wish you could see yourself like I see you.”That underwater kiss was also *chef’s kiss*Note that this book does end on a cliffhanger, however the next book will be released in two months.

Delighted to find follow on
So, I placed a pre publication for this one, read it and liked Piper Lawson's stuff so much I then ordered the Off Limits series, with Tempt.I had previously bought Wicked and Rivals. I was delighted to discover that this book was a follow on to the Tempt book, so now I'm off to reread Game Changer to spot the references to Kat and Daniel.Believe me, it's no hardship. Really enjoyed it first time around!!
