The Usual Francis Obsessions
I read most of the genuine Dick Francis novels as they came out, usually as I had bought them as Xmas presents for my father who loved the, even though he had never backed a horse in his life. I decided to catch up with the later novels written in collaboration with his son, who following Francis Snr's death has taken over the franchise. The problem with binge reading is that the flaws, repetions and obsessions become obvious. This is better than the first Hinckley novel, he only dons a ludicrous disguise once, but repeats the usual obsessions: a distrust of the police; the typical counter-jumpers concern with class and money - the Times Rich List is mentioned over and over again and a condoning of tax fraud - unsurprising as the racing industry is notorious for this, its greatest jockey having served time for tax evasion. One thing that is particualrly hard to believe is that an Intelligence Corps officer who has served several tours in Afghanistan would never have fired a gun in anger. That said a fair airport read.

A worthy successor to Dick Fransis
I Enjpyed this book. I couldn't avoid comparing it to a Dick Fransis book and it compared very well. Wasit as good? I think it fell a little short. But it was enjoyable and I certainly put it on my list of preferred authors

If you are a fan of Dick Francis you'll become a fan of his son.
Nothing to dislike about this book. I was a great fan of his Father Dick Francis and am a fan of him. Very well written and exciting from the first page on. Even if you know nothing about the world of horse racing these books are thrillers in their own right.

Another riveting read from the Francis stable!
Another riveting read from the Francis stable! I am so pleased that Felix Francis took over after his father passed away. He writes in a similar style to his father and, indeed, assisted with the research on his father's later books. This time out, Jeff Hinkley is back, divorced, and living in a small flat in London but events soon lead him to the Cayman Islands with a beautiful new girlfriend where the idyllic life is not all it seems and, following a chance discovery, he finds his life is in danger.I always look forward to the release of a new Francis book with great anticipation. As my father always used to say: Christmas isn't Christmas without a good book!
