Another great setting
This series has taken us all over the globe from the middle east and Africa to the U.S. and South America. This time we are going to eastern Europe! This book is set mostly in Russian-bordering countries. A lot of twists keep you on edge. Less action than most of the books but still great read.

Kyle Swanson outwits a Russian defector.
Coughlin and Davis continue to write stand-along novels even with this ninth in the Kyle Swanson series, i.e.. any reader can pick up Long Shot and enjoy the non-stop action.without having read any of the previous eight novels. Kyle still works as a part-time sniper for the CIA while keeping his cover as VP for Excalibur Enterprises. Long Shot takes place primarily in Finland and Estonia with Russia and a traitor in NATO keeping the dramatic tension high. Coughlin and Davis continue to include strong female characters and good descriptive writing.

Political warfare with only minimal shooting
I was was expecting much more time spent on long range snipers . Mostly this was psychological war with some Baltic history thrown in.

Fast paced, with real-world drama!
I have sincerely enjoyed The Kyle Swanson novels. This story could have been today's headlines, as it all revolves around a plot for Russian expansion into the neighboring independent neighbor's as they are currently doing in the Ukraine. One of the things I appreciate about Coughlin is his gritty realism, and how Kyle isn't a superman. Like us, he gets tired, he doesn't always figure things out at the time an event occurs, he feels deeply the loss of a comrade, and he bleeds when stabbed or otherwise wounded. We have some interesting new characters, and suffer betrayal at the highest levels. All told, it's a great new book, and I look forward to Kyle Swanson's next great adventure.

Pretty decent as a story but demonizes Snowden
Decent as a story, but he likens Snowden to his fictional Russian operative pretending to give give strategic and tactical info to our side. Snowden gave up so much for the betterment of our country. That's an unfair prejudice to put in people's minds, especially those unfamiliar with the Snowden case.

Coughlin's a winner, Swanson's the real deal.
I have all 16 of the Kyle Swanson series.Do you like military themed novels? Check out Sgt. Jack Coughlin, retired Marine, great story teller. Well written, believable plots with no phony, ridiculous garbage stretching the imagination. Just good reads, every last one of them. I rate them with my other favorites in the genre, Stephen Hunter and Scott McEwen. I won't review the story. If you like the premise, check them out. I doubt you'll be sorry.
