What is the minimum clearance needed to use the 5mm wrench? Distance from tip of hex to back of handle?

Minimum clearance is 10mm or 3/8 inch

They do not ratchet, they are in a fixed position. Good for tight spaces.

Are these available with star heads?

Check "low profile offset wrenches" for Torx or Phillips heads (I don't know which is a star head). Steelman sells Torx heads, on Amazon. Also, several manufacturers sell offset ratcheting wrenches that have replaceable bits. The heads may be a bit longer than the heads on the Anex Allen wrenches, but consider such. For my purposes (adjusting brakes on ebikes), the very short Anex wrenches work best. Good luck!
