I have not seen one of his film I have not liked. He is the easy going bloke you rarely see in film these days but when it comes to action, he is at the front of the queue. It goes to show no matter how good you think you are with drugs, they will win in the end. The ending of this film was excellent and for me well worth watching.

……this film censorship rated UK “15”…started watching, and immediately thought should be “18”….snorting cocaine, in the opening scenes, then foul language ensuing in general conversations.Then I was surprised (and initially disappointed) Denzel Washington accepted taking on such a role.BUT…..all becomes clear as the film and story evolves.Denzel Washington is a passenger airline pilot, you, the viewer knows he has used cocaine, has been drinking alcohol, at the very least, the night before, and spent the night with a beautiful young woman, who turns out to be one of the cabin crew also due on duty that day on the same flight.So already, you, the viewer, the feeling of uneasiness is already developing.The sense of such unprofessional behaviour, and “who is this man”, knowing that Denzel Washington is acting so out of character, nothing like the man he is in real life.And gradually I realised, that is exactly the point as an actor (excellent. In this, by the way) he is portraying.I didn’t like the character of this pilot.And I became thoughtful about Pilots and professional standards in general.Scared anyone can step onto a plane for any journey, “your life in their hands”, the pilots, cabin crews, engineers, the company owners.This flight journey is a relatively short hop of 57 minutes.The take off is in rain, side winds, and a minute later entering a storm, the turbulence being violent.The Senior pilot is Denzel Washington, he is clear in his instructions, stay strapped in, everyone seated, including the co-pilot, who is obviously not confident in Washington’s orders.They come out of the storm, everything seems to ease off, the passengers applaud.Then, suddenly the plane starts to lose height, fast.And this is where the story opens up…..This DVD has a bonus feature……”the making of”, no CGI here.The final line spoken by one of the actors….”I don’t think this movie will be shown on any plane flight journeys….”It is not a fantasy horror film…..it is reality.Denzel Washington’s Pilot is a highly skilled man…..with serious flaws which he denies to himself.Therein lies the danger and the final outcome.I recommend watching this, raises many issues that affect every human being.Brilliant.

From the opening scene of Washington waking up in bed with a stewardess, drinking leftover booze and snorting a line of coke - before heading to the airport to fly a plane... we know we are in for a role from him a little different than we have seen for a while. This is a man whose life is figuratively, and pretty soon literally, in freefall. The opening act of the movie is a plane crash that is both visceral and believable.. a reminder of Zemeckis the director who knows the value of special effects and how they help you tell a story. The rest of the movie reveals a different director altogether, the director of Castaway, Forrest Gump and Contact, who understands how to reveal character and make people 3 dimensional. After that crash, the movie's drama is all based on the character. He is told he has to stay clean and off the booze, and his battle with that is what drives the movie forward, as the movie explores the period up to the Federal investigation hearing. As the debris from the plane is pulled to together to investigate the crash, the movie starts to explore the wreckage that is Denzel's life. The middle stretch of the movie is a bit baggy for sure, but it's hard to say what should have been cut, because every minute of Washington on screen is electric. If it hadn't been for Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln, I'm sure the Oscar would have been his. A memorable scene involves him and a hotel mini-bar, in a will he-won't he moment that is wonderfully cut together and shows the director and actor in top form. His personal flight from facing his addiction is gripping in its own way, but it's worth also mentioning a supporting cast that rise to the occasion - from Kelly Reilly as the woman he meets in hospital who tries to sober him up, to Don Cheadle and Bruce Greenwood his support system for the legal battle, to John Goodman his supplier of medicinal pick-me-ups and source of most of the movies few laughs, there isn't a wrong step.There are plenty of ideas explored here, about relationships, faith as well as addiction, which stretch the running time a bit. So yes, it's a little sluggish to be a masterpiece. But the performances here make this a must see nonetheless, and if you have had experience with alcoholics then the lies and behaviours here will ring scarily true. A slightly long, but satisfyingly nuanced success.

パッケージの空をキッと見つめるデンゼル機長。内容を全く知らずに観たのでパニックヒーローものかと思いきやビックリ。映画が始まるやいきなり元妻から電話で養育費の催促を受け、ダルそうに対応するデンゼル。傍らには新恋人とおぼしき若いセクシーな女性。「頭がフラついてる…食わずに飲んだ」と言った直後にコカインを吸入、サングラスとパイロットの制服に身を包み颯爽と登場。思わず我が目を疑いました(笑)この一連の流れで早速ヤバい人なのがわかります。そして機長が操縦する飛行機が故障し、彼の卓越した操縦技術による不時着で死者は乗員乗客102名中6名に抑えられ、機長は英雄として祭り上げられるが彼の体内から薬物の陽性反応およびアルコールが検出され…というお話。「彼は英雄か、はたまた犯罪者か？」という天秤にかけられる人間性が本作のテーマの一つです。機長の「機体の故障とアルコールは関係ない。ビールを飲んだから尾翼が壊れたのか？」という言い分は理解できますが、これが車の場合だとそうも行きません。同様に車が何らかの原因で故障して事故を起こした場合でも、運転手からアルコールが検出されたら運転手は即逮捕されるはずです。違いは多数の乗客の命を預かっているかどうかだけ。なので機長は絶望からかあきらめからなのか、自分に関わる周囲の人々にひたすら横柄な態度を取り続け、孤独な破滅の一途を辿ります。そもそも"Flight"という英単語には本来の飛行機のフライトの他に「逃走、脱出」の意味合いがある訳です。恋人のニコールや友人のチャーリー、ヒュー弁護士を罵倒したり、元妻の家に押し入って息子と取っ組み合いを始めたり、最終的には審問会の当日にホテルの隣室に忍び込み、酒をたらふく盗み飲んで倒れるという有り様（デンゼル、マイ・ボディガード以上の飲みっぷり。思わずダコタ・ファニングちゃん風に「クリーシ～！」と叫ぶ自分がいました笑）。更にジョン・グッドマン演ずる薬の売人（登場する度にここぞとばかりにローリングストーンズの曲がかかるのが面白い笑）を呼びつけコカインを一緒に吸うという体たらく。あきれ果てるチャーリーとヒュー弁護士は視界に入らんばかり。このデンゼル機長のメチャクチャなキャラクターを不快に思う方もいるでしょうが、実際に重度のアル中患者ってこういう感じなのかな、と思わせる怖さがあります。この映画が他に描いているのは依存症の恐ろしさ。「もう酒は飲まない」と宣言しアルコールドラッグ類を処分しながら、いつの間にか飲酒を再開している機長。バドワイザーやウォッカ片手に運転は当たり前。元タレントの小向美奈子氏が出所後のインタビューで、「薬はもうやりませんか」の問いに「当たり前です」と答えながら再逮捕されたのを思い出しました。大リーグ大谷選手の元通訳水原一平氏のギャンブル依存も記憶に新しいですね。これを書いてる私自身仕事に支障を来すほどアルコールに頼っていた時期があり、機長が抱える苦しみがよくわかって…、現在は自力でアルコールを断てましたが、機長は審問会で嘘をつき通せず刑務所へ。二度と歩けなくなった副機長や死んだ元恋人のトリーナの顔が浮かんだのでしょうか。疲れ果てた顔に滲む機長の涙が悲しい。ラストに面会に訪ねてきた息子の「何者なの？」という問いに「良い質問だ」と答える彼。パイロットでもアル中患者、薬物中毒者でもなくなった彼のこれからは、ヒュー弁護士の言葉にある通り「あとはあなた次第」なのです。自分も劇中最後の機長と同じく酒を断って1年になり、非常に身近に感じられる作品だと感じたので、戒めの意味を込めて今回のソフト購入に至りました。

Und mir geht es dabeigenau wie dem Drehbuchautor, der sagte: " Ich habe Flugangst. Ich verstehe die physikalischenZusammenhänge, doch es beruhigt mich nicht. Mein Leben in den Händen des Piloten.............".Aber ich muss da durch. Immer und immer wieder gerne. Ist ja nur ein Film. Grins.FLIGHT- der Sound knallt genau so rein, wie die Sachen, die sich das Flieger- As Whitaker einwirft.Der Absturz des Jets schüttelt mich jedes Mal aufs neue durch, ich drehe mit ab." Phantastische Bilder einer Knapp- Katastrophe." Wir fliegen in Rückenlage....." .FLIGHT! Eintausend Fuß- Triebwerkausfall! Die Passagiere hängen kopfüber mit den Füssen in den Haltegriffen.Dann die eindrucksvollste Bruch/ Bauchlandung eines Höllenfluges, die ich bis dato sah........................-Sechsundneunzig Passagiere überleben dies. Drei Menschen finden den Tod. Ich mache mir Sorgen um dich,....mach` einen Entzug. "FLIGHT behandelt realistisch das Thema des alltäglichen, legalen und unlegalen Drogenkonsums (trotz Hollywood- Stempel )genau so, wie ich es von einem Film erwarte. So, wie es ein guter Film tun muss. Kein lächerlicher Umgang mit Drogen- bzw. als reines Stilmittel-, sondern ein kunstvolles Porträt über einen Schwerstalkoholiker. Und die Uneinsichtigkeitdes typisch Süchtigen.Der Cast ist hier perfekt, Kelly Reilly wirkt total ungekünstelt. Und Kompliment mal wieder an Denzel Washington,der den tragischen Helden mit all seinen Facetten überaus überragend darstellt- mit einer Tiefgründigkeit spielt, wie es sicherwohl kein anderer ansatzweise schaffen würde. DVD non visionné , acheté après la lecture du résumé et pour la présence de l'acteur principal dans ce film , néanmoins je ne peux donner mon avis ;DVD visionné,SUPER - MEGA- GÉNIAL MA- GNI- FI- QUE !!!!"ANATOMIE D UN CRASH AÉRIEN"!!!!Pilote de ligne chevronné ,réussissant à faire atterrir son avion en catastrophe après un accident dans le ciel;l'enquête fait naître des interrogations ; salué comme un héros après le crash il voit sa vie entière exposée .La grande question est le poids du mensonge,le sens des responsabilités.Le scénario explore la personnalité des acteurs avec finesse,intelligence .Quelles sont les motivations de son ami qui fait partie du syndicat des pilotes?celles de son avocat?Pourquoi cette femme hospitalisée pour overdose dans le même hôpital,s'interresse à lui?Le scénario prend pleins de directions et nous permet de survoler les méandres d'une très belle histoire humaine,le sens du mot courage.Excellent Denzel Washington ,un rôle à la hauteur de son talent;il joue ici un de ses meilleurs rôles.Avec les acteurs et réalisateur exceptionnels,la barre est placée très haute en termes d'attentes pour flight.Le film y répond bien très bonnes surprises au niveau de la profondeur du scénario et du traitement des sujets abordés.A NE PAS RATER A VOIR A VOIR IMPÉRATIVEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
