Chapati Flour 1kg, Medium - Roti, Indian Flat Bread, Make Parantha, Stuffed flatbread at home for Indian curry by Harry Harvey

This was my third go at making them, having failed miserably the first two times using regular strong bread flour and then trying extra strong 00 flour. I watched a video on YouTube and the chap recommended this special flour, which is nothing like the usual wholewheat flour in the supermarkets. This flour has texture, almost like wheat bran , and it is so easy to use. The dough forms really easily, and is superb for rolling out non yeast flatbreads ( it may work with yeast but as I was trying to make Chapatti, and the recipe only called for water, salt and a tiny amount of oil) They puffed up really well when I flipped them over onto the direct heat, and the flavour is wonderfully nutty. I love making these now, I have a tawa pan I use for making dosa (a very different thing being more like a wafer thin crêpe) and this pan works well for the flatbread, but I did follow the instructions and once one side was cooked I flipped it directly onto the hob and poof, like a pufferfish. Very pleased with this flour, will definitely buy again.

I have recently been trying to make Paratha. I had previously bought a well known brand of Atta but I was looking for more options. I came across this wholewheat flour. It was easy to knead. It took the correct amount of water which shows this is wholewheat flour. Also the taste of the piranhas came out nice and a bit nutty which was very pleasant. I will buy again.

definitly not like the home country, but here in uk...it is wonderful. almost like ata.

Perfect for roti & chapattis

The nice thing about chapatti is that it can be a fairly impulsive thing to do. Unlike other breads that take hours of prep and proving, you can knock together some chapatti using this flour by kneading it for as long as you can be bothered (the longer the better) before slapping it in a pan for barely a couple of minutes or less, and you’re done. It’s like making a pancake, but bread. The results are also vaguely like a pizza base, so if one of your children is whinging about wanting a pizza, you can improvise something with this. So it’s a very handy flour to have to hand. This particular brand is absolutely fine, where ‘fine’ is a poor attempt at double meaning- it’s a very finely sifted flour, and it works successfully every time I use it. It has a good colour to it and a flavour that seems authentic to me, as far as I can say. The bag is a bit basic and lacks resealability so if you’re only going to use small amounts every once in a while and store the rest, you’ll want some other way of storing it. And if you’re making chapatti every single day on a more industrial scale then you’ll be able to find bigger bags of this stuff that work out much cheaper. While it’s tempting to knock a star off the rating because of one of those two points, I think that for occasional home and family use, this is the right size of bag and the value is pretty reasonable.
