Making my practical art digital!
I’m a professional practical effects artist that has been working primarily in the theme park industry. So dealing primarily with traditional art materials to produce characters has been my passion. For many years I have been watching the development of hand held scanners for industrial use, and the heavy price tag that came with them. But now that 3D printing has become a huge market, the price of these technologies have come way down and are now accessible to prosumers. But even with so many companies now offering 3D scanners, there was still much to be desired for the price. When I first heard about 3Dmakerpro scanners they had just released the Whale scanner. It solved so many issues that cheaper ones had in capture, but still was out of my reach. So when they put together a Indiegogo campaign for the Seal it was very exciting. Finally a high quality scanner that was affordable, and better yet it was half the normal price! I have enjoyed using it for my tiny sculptures to recreate them in different scales 3D printed. But it has the limitation of scan size area for larger pieces. I decided to go with their Mole scanner to be able to scan an entire head bust easier. That way I could print sections of them to create prosthetic sculptures on and mold. What is even more exciting is that after scanning an object, you can create a mold in a 3D modeling program and just print it out. Cutting out a lot of time, cost, and extra material steps! The Mole does an amazing job at capturing broad areas very quickly and clearly without markers. The software for all their scanners, JMStudio is very user friendly, and has come a long way from when I got my Seal scanner. 3Dmakerpro has a great online presence on social media, and listen to their customers. Many of the improvements in their software have come from user feedback, which is a rare thing these days. I can’t recommend enough their line of scanners, they are truly game changers! Here’s some pictures of my art and the scans.

Incredibly noisy/inaccurate scans - it sucks!
I often need to replace broken plastic items that are no longer in production for whatever various reason. The idea was to plop the plastic item onto the table, scan it to a 3D model, MAYBE pop it into a 3D editor (FreeCAD, Blender) to make some last minute tweaks and immediately print REPAIRED 3D components to complete repairs. That was my intent. This was somehow originally a KickStarter project - how they ever got Creality backing is a mystery! I got no support from the CR Lizard Discord channel (there are people there, but they're unresponsive) and every CR-Lizard video out there purports this scanner to be perfect --- but following their examples (step-by-step!) I can't get the quality of scan that they manage. Ever. At all. I've even applied 3D Scan Spray to make the objects opaque where they might be seen as reflective or translucent to no avail. Folks, I believe that they sent *PRIMO* product to various YouTube people be reviewed, but left the dregs for the rest of us. I paid full price for this thing, but have had to resort to building the objects longhand with the help of my tried-and-true Micrometer, which always provides a superior 3D object but as you might guess takes a lot longer. It has YET to provide a scanned object that I can use. It's been months - so I feel I've given it a fair trial. The software is really easy to use. It just doesn't know what to do with the data coming in from the camera. It's almost like they tried to crib their software off the web...I've upgraded the software, run the scan under NO ambient light, run the scan under even ambient light, sprayed the targets with 3D Scan Spray and it consistently returns the same discouraging results: the object scans either don't (or can't) align properly, it loses frames, and the blobby-nasty 3D result is always a frustrating disappointment.I may continue to buy Creality 3D printers because _THOSE_ tools have proven to be real dependable workhorses (I have a few of their FDM and Resin 3D printers), but this CR Lizard scanner - which seemed too good to be true - turned out to be a flop.

Why the manual direct you to download an app that is not available or yet released.
Not to happy to find that out. Will be returning if don't hear from support. Also apparently there isna special cable that is need it, and it doesn't come with the unit and after reading Facebook group, the Mole manufacturer would not be releasing the cable adapter until May 15.That is not good for a new product.Glad that I have Amazon Prime...I need assistance from support ASAP if not will be returning the unit....Updated; I returned the product because the app neither the cable to be use with the scanner is available at the moment. I guess they are aiming to release both in the next 2 week or like end of May 2023.I like the product. The customer service was very responsive and available on request. I will definitely give the product a second chance once the portable version becomes available. The description of what each package includes and do is a little confusing.Waiting for the app for smartphone and the cable to becomes available in order to re-order.I will update my 4 star once I can try the product as advertised. The reason not given a 5 star is because I had to buy the product in order to find out the hard way they are not cut up on the product expectations with software and equipment that is required to use it in a portable way.
