A Wonderfully Comprehensive and Well-written Guide to a Famous Comedy Duo
As someone who grew up on the famous comedy teams of Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, and of course, Abbott and Costello, I assumed there was little left for me to learn about the work of those whose work has spanned the last nearly 100 years in film and television. This book proved me wrong, and did so while not only being informative and entertaining, but also while providing one of the most thorough examinations of this comedy duo that I have ever seen. My favorite chapter, Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops, provides a through analysis of a movie I had never seen, allowing me the good fortune to learn even more about Bud and Lou in their later years.I look forward to reading additional works by Mr. Santa Maria and Mr. Coniam.

A fresh perspective on Abbott & Costello
Having read every book written on Abbott & Costello, it was a surprising delight to discover this new, thoughtful appreciation of their film work. The authors bring a different spin to discussing the film world of Abbott & Costello, with interesting commentary, insightful comparisons to their radio & TV work and historical footnotes that place the films in context during their careers. It’s a wonderful read, and it’s encouraged me to watch some of their films again to follow up on some of the insights they mention. How about another book on just their TV appearances? Between the live Colgate Comedy Hours, the two seasons of the Abbott & Costello show and the odd one shots on Ed Sullivan, there is enough material to do a deep dive into this specific and fruitful time in their careers.
