updated from a previous model
I had to learn how to microwave all over. But in a good way. The operations are different from the last model. I also found the instruction booklet so easy to use! Many tips and how too's that improve the whole microwaving process. The presets are not in your face, so you have to learn where to turn your dial. I have my go-to #'s and I am still learning the machine in that respect. But it is the same brand as I previously had, and I really like the Panasonic. It appears the last one failed because of a door seal. I don't know it that could have been repaired or not. I am not a repair type of person when I can buy a new one. If the machine is a couple few years old, I say its time to replace. It is good looking and works nicely. The sensor setting cooks a little hot, but that may be because of the cover I use to cook with. I try to stop it early, especially in reheating pizza. good machine, the last one was as well and they are consistent with the newer one. Good job Panasonic!

Works well as a retrofit built in with custom trim kit
This item is a replacement for an 18 year old Dacor unit that finally failed. The Dacor was built in above my oven, and had a stainless trim kit around it. The Panasonic unit is superior to the Dacor, and is really well priced. The device works quite well. The inverter technology is an improvement for defrosting. I am hopeful it will last many years. My main reason for reviewing has to do with the trim kit for a retrofit. I ordered the recommended kit through Amazon from Panasonic. It is a lovely kit, but works very poorly as a retrofit to my current cabinet. It is unfortunate, since the kit could have been designed with adjustable mounts. But it is not. So, after some internet searching, I came upon microtrim.com. They make custom fits for any unit. I ordered on a Monday, and the custom kit arrived in 5 working days. It is very easy to install, and works well. Looks just fine. It is not as nice looking as the kit from Panasonic, but at least it fits properly!! I have included a photo.

Stands Out Among Its Peers
The knob and buttons take some getting used to if you are converting from a full digital microwave operating panel. That being said, this microwave is otherwise an All-Star. Once operating it is understood, its easy to clean and maintain, is sleek and modern looking, has an enormous amount of room inside, and heats food and liquids evenly. Its also versatile in that is can sit on a counter top or be built in above or below counter-level. Well done Panasonic.

Does what it needs to do- This was a great buy.
I've owned this product for two months now. I have used the defrost function, popcorn function, the +30 seconds feature, and regular cook functions. Previously, I had a very basic microwave. So far I have been impressed. The popcorn popped to perfection. Until I get used to using this, I have kept the user manual handy to make sure that I cook or thaw meat at the correct temperature and time. When in doubt I have used the +30 seconds feature. This unit is quiet and fairly easy to use. It is a step above what I used to have. I will add an update or two, and hope that you find it useful.UPDATE January 2020- Still going strong with daily use.UPDATE May 2019- we are still very happy with our decision. We use the defrost and reheat functions the regularly. They work well. We also use the regular cook function a lot. It is easy to either use the +30 seconds or use the dial.

Don't buy this if your neighbor has a pacemaker.
Pros:Huge capacityEasy to usePowerfulCons:The dial doesn't allow you to chose exact times. For example, when you turn the dial to select the time, it goes from 1:30 to 1:40. If you want to cook something for 1 minute and 35 seconds, you have to set it for 1:40 and stop it at 1:35.Update:I'm not sure if it's properly shielded. When the microwave is on, my Bluetooth ear buds go off kilter, even if im at the other end of the house. When it shuts off, they go back to normal.Update 2: screw this thing. I've reduced my rating to one star. When the microwave is turned on, it knocks my Roku off of the wifi from 40+ feet away, and I can't reconnect until the microwave is off. There is clearly a shielding problem. Buyer beware!

This is a vast improvement over my 2 year old LG
When my old Kenmore microwave died after 12 years of service I ran out to one of the home stores and bought a 2.2 cu/ft,1200 W, LG microwave. As soon as I got it home I realized there were some things I didn't like about it. 1. What kind of a moron designs a keypad with a black background and dark grey numbers/letters on the keypad? 2. The interior was a dark grey, making it almost impossible to tell if the interior was clean. 3. It was very heavy and very noisy. The fan drive was loud, and it made a loud clunk when the microwave kicked in. The turn-table made a clacking noise like the chain drive on a Massy Ferguson. 4. After just two years it would only work part of the time. Often we would have to start it three and four times just to heat up a cup of coffee. NOW, enter the Panasonic SD945S. 1. the keypad is easy to see. The rotating dial time selector is very easy to set. 2. The interior is a bright white with a very bright LED light which will make it very easy to clean. 3. It's quiet. 4. It cooks the food better. You can actually cook something without taking out halfway through the cooking cycle to stir it. (what a concept, a microwave that actually cooks) My wife loves the keep warm setting as I frequently don't drop everything I'm doing and run to the dinner table with her verbose declaration that dinner is ready. Overall this is a much better selection than it's poorly designed predecessor. PS If you like a partially working LG microwave for free, you'll find it sitting out by the curb waiting for the trash collector.

Quality product and very roomy inside
Bought back in 2019 and still going strong. The extra interior size accommodates large dishes. Love this microwave so much I’m ordering a second one for another location. They have eliminated the dial which I prefer of the key pad but I’ll overlook that for this purchase.
