Works fine instructions are really bad
I read lots of issues with connecting and using and I think there are two broad sets of issues1. ConnectingA. The instructions. Its a BLE device so you DON'T pair it as a Bluetooth device. You download the app and pair it to the app. Somehow I missed this and was trying to connect it to Bluetooth. Then I read somewhere it was BLE.B. Dead batteries, sure enough mine shipped with the deadest battery I've ever seen. To give you an idea these are 3V batteries, I've seen them discharged as low as 1.5V the one in the footpod was 0V. Its been dead a while.C. Dead replacement batteries. I've bought some "inexpensive" batteries online and they usually are past date and nearly dead. If you want make it easy on yourself use B&H they do resell through Amazon.2. Power savingA. The device is designed to monitor sports and undoubtedly relies on accelerations past a certain point to decide to be "awake." Putting it on and walking apparently doesn't do it. Running for a while or other "impact activities." I've go a game of ultimate coming up so we will see how it does. If it works fine it keeps the 4 starts and maybe earns another. If not.

JUNK!!!
This thing is a pile of JUNK JUNK JUNK!! Mine did not work AT ALL! Does nothing that it claims. I tried it several different times and it saved no workouts or runs that I did. VERY Disappointed. It connected to the app, but it saved nothing. Oh, wait. Itdid say that I played basketball for 37 minutes. Which I do not play. And it said that I did it on a day that I did not even wear it. Then after third attempt it did not even connect to the app. HUGE waste of money.

Battery was dead on arrival
I was very excited to receive this to pair it to my Suunto watch and after a few hours of not being able to activate the Speed Cell with the app, of the PC or the Suunto watch, we tried to replace the battery. Sure enough the battery that came with the Speed Cell was dead.IMO, terrible out of the box experience to have a device that advertises to have long battery life arrive to my house with a dead battery.

Android (4.3+) Finally Officially Supported
I bought the Speed_Cell to use as a stride sensor thinking I could use it with the Wahoo Fitness App, which was very recently released on Android. Unfortunatly, that app is not feature-full yet and does not support the standard bluetooth footpod standard. That's OK, I thought to myself, I will just use Adidas' official android app MiCoach! Except, at the time I purchased the MiCoach app for Android did not support their own hardware.I basically bought this thing with no way to use it.Luckily, just a couple of weeks ago, Adidas updated their MiCoach app for Android and the Speed_Cell is officially supported. Huzzah!I actually just got off the treadmill after tracking a four mile run, the Speed_cell was off by only two-one hundredths of a mile which is very, very impressive, especially considering that the documentation says that it should be within 10% of actual (i.e., four tenths). So being within half a percent of actual far exceeded my expectations.I think it's now very easy to recommend this for all smartphone users, though I am anxiously waiting for Wahoo Fitness to update their Android app to support footpods. Also, final note - the image for this product clearly shows both the bluetooth logo along with the ANT+ logo - this is ONLY a bluetooth device. The actual product is not dual mode - there is a completely separate product if you want ANT+ support.UPDATE 11/28/2014: Wahoo Fitness is currently beta testing footpod support in their Android app and it should be released soon. The Wahoo Fitness app is the de facto standard for fitness sensor data collection and can't be recommended highly enough. It works (at least in beta) perfectly with the speed_cell and I would definitely recommend it over the Adidas miCoach train & run app for use with this footpod.

The pc version works great however..
I have this for the pc and works great. Bought this to link up with Samsung Galaxy S4 mini for more immediate results. Unfortunately it is not compatible with operating systems 4.2 or lower. As of right now you cannot upgrade the operating system on the phone so as of right now I'm unable to use this device.

Why do these companies keep making false claims???
Very sad... This does pair up with an Android phone but it is useless!!!!! The miCoach app DOES NOT make use of the device on Android. You can bring the app up and see your pace but you can't monitor speed, or see your distance traveled and the pace is very tiny print in grey text on a lighter grey background!!! What moron thought that was a good idea. This CANNOT be used on a treadmill because you cannot read the display and even if you could the information is of virtually no value. I returned it for a full refund because it DOES NOT function as described. There is nothing wrong with the device itself. It is the software and false claims by the manufacturer. I cannot find any device that actually works on Android.
