FLOATS!
I'm a kayak angler and I ordered this to be my on-board fish whacker. It's a simple and humane way to put the fish down and harvest quality meet. I knock them over the head knocking them out or possibly killing them, then I cut the gills and bleed the fish in an ice slurry. This way the fish suffers the minimum amount and I get clean white blood free meat. I also have an ikejime set on board but that's a lot more work, just knocking them over the head and bleeding the gills is simple and effective. And it floats! This was important to me, I read the questions before buying and it wasn't answered. I looked up hickory wood, it does have an appropriate density to float on water, but I wasn't certain this product was 100% hickory. I still cannot attest to the hickory composition but I am delighted to report that it does float! Testing it floating was my first order of business on the water today. And it was excellent for thumping fish! It's solid, heavy, not too heavy, looks great, feels great, and bonks 'em real good. 10/10 would recommend.

A Great Old Fashioned Hickory Stick
I like the way it looks, it has a good length and it is light and therefore fast to wield. It is also solid, dense and solid, you don't want to get hit with this!

Fantastic stick
I carry this stick when I walk my dog around the neighborhood and at campgrounds in case a dog comes charging at us. I use it as an extension of my arm to keep more space between the dogs. Hopefully I never have too use it on a dog/person Great quality hardwood and well balanced

Good product
After spending 5 years on my uncle's semi, I just feel better having this around. Good quality. Nice weight.

Very Sturdy
I bought this for protection at home and while traveling in car. It is nice looking very study and just the right weight. It should do the job if I ever need it. Plus it is small enough to hide right next to you.

Sturdy
I bought this for my Father in-law to carry when he walks his dog at night or early in the morning. We live in NJ and we have coyotes. He also see's loose dogs once in a while. He used to carry a broom stick when he walked the dog. This is much thicker and very sturdy. He puts this in his pocket and pulls his shirt over it. I bought this because one night while holding the broom stick a cop stopped him and gave him a hard time.

Whack a ...
The Thumper, is 18" and made out of hickory. Stained and smoothed, as if its been used for years. Gives this thumper, that ole time feel. Something you might find hidden away, at an antique or days long gone store. its made in America, even endorsed by someone from TV. Lived with a bear in the mountains, hint. So why did I almost give it four stars, its where they drilled the hole for the leather lace. It should of been moved up a bit, to avoid any contact with your palm. But if you remove the loop, next to the thumper. Then retie it, your hand slips though with ease. Reach down, there it is. *Now I have to wonder, how would it work, if it was 16"? The weight might be easier to control, as some you need to use your strength and not the weight of the thumper. Not gonna cut it down, just thinking is all.* Oh, as for thumping fish. I get mine frozen or in a can, never on a pizza! Do I own a truck or tractor trailer, the vehicles I played with when I was young. Had steel wheels, an once had a caboose at the end. So why did I purchase a tire/fish thumper .., for my gun belt. WHAT?! In the ole days, instead of using a gun. A gentle whack upside the head, would put an end to whatever and whoever was causing trouble. Like the batons of today, which you'll see police officers wearing somewhere on their duty belt. That's why, instead of a flashy new baton, I'm looking for something old-fashioned. So if you're looking for something to whack a fish, tire or desperado with, this might be what you're looking for too.

Too many stray dogs!
I walk with a pitbull roughly 3 miles daily. My neighborhood has changed drastically over the years and the FB page for my city is constantly post pictures of stray dogs hoping to maybe notify an owner. We were attacked the other day by a shephard mix about 60 lbs. Trying to kick it in the head while it is trying to grab my dogs throat was a bit more exercise than I was wanting. My Internet search led my to this fish whacker. I named it Billy and he now accompanies us on our walk. Has a nice smooths finish, looks like a souvineer you'd pick up while camping and hopefully will scare off a dog without killing it!
